Draft rewind: Saints' five-year recap
NEW ORLEANS SAINTS
Best choice: Jimmy Graham. The Saints took what appeared to be a huge leap when they took the former University of Miami basketball player in the third round (95th overall) in 2010. They struck a major gold mine. By his second season, Graham already was one of the best tight ends in the NFL. But the really good news is that his best days are likely still ahead of him. Worst choice: Sedrick Ellis. Taken with the seventh overall pick in 2008, Ellis was supposed to have a huge impact. That never has happened. Ellis hasn’t been a total bust, but he’s never delivered the type of production you would expect from a top-10 pick. That’s why I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the Saints let Ellis walk into free agency in March. Verdict pending: Mark Ingram. The Saints traded up to get Ingram with the 28th overall pick in the 2011 draft. When you trade up to get a running back, you expect big results. We haven’t seen much out of Ingram yet as he shares space in a crowded New Orleans backfield. But I’m not ready to give up on Ingram just yet. I think he still could be an impact player if the coaching staff uses him properly. Draft rewind: Saints' five-year recap - NFC South Blog - ESPN |
Re: Draft rewind: Saints' five-year recap
2014
Jimmy Graham $665,140 i am expecting a deal in the five-year, $40 million range Malcolm Jenkins $11,000,000 Zach Strief $1,750,000 David Thomas $1,500,000 Charles Brown $1,310,000 Jonathan Vilma $1,000,000 Will Herring $1,000,000 The rest of the bunch ( < $1,000,000 ) so next year will not be so great for for redoing contract deals except for Jenkins but wiping players from the books with any major carry over is much better so keeping our best impact player is going to happen I am not going into the mess the saints have in 2015 |
Come 2015 won't some of the players be cut with the guaranteed money just about gone?.
The team will need a massive revp by then IMO Could be the time to trade away some of the big names to rebuild. |
Re: Draft rewind: Saints' five-year recap
They left out Jenkins #14 in the first round. I truly hope we trade down and find some true talent.

Re: Draft rewind: Saints' five-year recap
Bring in someone to coach defense that has an eye for talent.

Re: Draft rewind: Saints' five-year recap
Besides Cameron Jordan, we kind of suck at evaluating first round talent... And even with Jordan it took us two seasons to switch to a defense that he's more suitable for. As excited as I am about drafting a great impact player in the first round this year, I can't help but feel like we won't.
