Sounds like junior is happy he would be a OLB in the 3-4

Look at this stat also - junior got 5 sacks in 26% defensive snaps, just think how many he could get in 75% snaps
Same with martez who also recorded 4 1/2 sacks in very limited time, they could become pro bowlers

Anyway, naturally he thinks he is a great fit for the 3-4 and Ryan's scheme in particular - he is, after all, looking to get a contract from the Saints.

I believe he could be a monster rush lb., he has all the tools. And playing DE last year just helped him learn to shed off of blocks. Go get them JUNIOR.

And don't forget, he isn't trying to gain weight anymore. He'll likely drop some of the added weight and play around 250 lbs.

He had put on weight to play DE (I think he said he was up over 270 last off-season).

Being cat-quick at 270 lbs? Imagine how fast-twitch this cat can be at 250 lbs.

But can he be effective dropping back into coverage? Martez will be fine because he's naturally a linebacker, but Junior either has a lot of work ahead of him or he's freakishly talented enough already... We'll see. I'm pulling for you Junior, I've always loved your non-stop motor.

He has done it before in Greggs system, but obviously those were rare instances.

But your right, I think pass coverage is everyone's major concern with Galette. I guess the good news is that the WOLB in a 3-4 doesn't drop into coverage that frequently. The WILB will be Vilma, who happens to excel in coverage so I think we'll be OK. Or maybe I'm just overly optimistic.

Nah I don't think you're overly optimistic... In fact, the way you laid it out actually comforts me a little bit and makes me think that Junior will be fine. That being said, I'd still like to draft an OLB in the first round who has experience covering receivers/tight ends just for insurance on obvious passing downs.

Like I've said before, I can see Hicks & Bunkley at the nose position, with Jourdan playing the RDE spot. I see us drafting or getting the LDE from FA. Sorry but Will Smith is done, he hasn't been a factor since 09. I see Lofton manning the SILB spot with Wilson taking Swilling & Renaldo Turnbull's old, LOLB spot, and Galette taking Ricky Jackson' s old ROLB spot. We'll need to draft the WILB and at least 1 more rush OLB, and a difference maker at CB & S and I think we'll see a dramatic improvement in our defense next year. JMHO.

As soon as I found out that the Saints were going to be switching to a 3-4 defense, I immediately became excited about having Galette, Wilson and Jordan on this roster. I mentioned in a previous thread that I believed that Junior and Martez could possibly be a duo like Miller and Dumervil in Denver. Those two put up nearly 30 sacks between them for the Broncos last year. With the nonstop motors our boys have, I can easily see them both in double digits for sacks this year. When is the last time we saw that?!

More the reason the let Vilma go get us some money for that Class A NT or rush specialist on that DL with some beef.
