Terron Armstead
Terron Armstead, a 306-pound tackle, runs a jaw-dropping 40 | ProFootballTalk
I know the 40 yard dash is incredibly overrated amongst analysts and the like, but I haven't heard anything about this guy until now. Potential later round pick? What do you guys think? I mean, it is crazy that a 300 pound offensive lineman ran practically the same 40 as our own Mark Ingram. We do have an uncanny ability to turn later round offensive linemen into Pro Bowlers. Is he just a Combine work out warrior? |
Re: Terron Armstead
Straight-line speed in shorts and a T-shirt from a track start is highly over-rated.
BTW: Ingram and Ivory both ran a low of 4.47 at their pro-days. |
Re: Terron Armstead
Armstead ran his 40-yard dash in an unofficial time of 4.65 seconds, which is stunningly fast for a 306-pound offensive tackle
yep he has been thrown around in the big board section more than once. there are some really interesting OT in this year draft in the middle rounds that are worth the pick using the "UPSIDE" factor. he is one of them Lane Johnson Oklahoma 6-6 303 Bench 28 arm 35.28 Terron Armstead Arkansas-Pinebluff 6-5 306 Bench 31 arm 34.08 Luke Marquardt Azusa Pacific 6-8 315 Bench 31 arm 34.48 David Quessenberry San Jose State 6-5 302 Bench 25 arm 34.38 |
Re: Terron Armstead
I was just meaning Ingram's 4.68 at the combine. But like I said, 40 times are greatly overrated by analysts. We're gonna lose Bushrod and Charles Brown isn't gonna amount to anything... Hell, even Strief is inconsistent at best. Just thought this guy might be an interesting prospect.

He could be a monster in the screen game blocking if that track speed translated into game speed.

If there's some technique there as well...

Re: Terron Armstead
the thing about him is he needs work but the athletic ability is there.
Armstead is a freakish all-around athlete who was also an outstanding shot putter in college, but the question, of course, is whether he can translate that athleticism to playing at the NFL level. And on that score, the early indications are good: Although he didn’t play against high-quality competition at Arkansas Pine-Bluff, he was a good college player who was so impressive at the East-West Shrine Game that he got a late invitation to the Senior Bowl. |
Re: Terron Armstead
Could yall see this guy eligible for a pass? Wow talk about some miss match head aches, with Pt or Sproles all coming out of the backfield.... It would be fun to watch

Everyone. knows about him now!

Re: Terron Armstead
What a 40 time like that really does is get everybodys attention, scouts will look at an extra round of film on him. If his pay on film looks decent he'll probably increas his draft stock quite a bit. When does the Jokeland Raiders pick again?
|
Re: Terron Armstead
Slot Armstead at no later than a fourth rounder...
|
The 40 is nearly more about launch than speed.
These days they work with track coaches for months to prefect their launch. Put him in a 3 point and Ingram in a RB stance (football stances), and let them run a 40 side by side. |
Re: Terron Armstead
Do we have the time to develop players?

with the ot we have now? hell ya! develop away

Re: Terron Armstead
Kendall Wright and Mohamed Sanu ran 4.61 and 4.67
more impressive is 1.64 10yard split (fastest lane Johnson 1.61) high-upside left tackle now Round 2 ? here we go with combine hype round 3 looks to be the magic round |
I can't see us getting any of the top 3 LOT without moving up.The best hope we have if a couple of the top QB's have outstanding combines and teams reach for them.I wouldn't mind finding a veteran for a year and moving up next year for the top tackle.

True, and there are quite a few potential candidates on the FA market to fill that spot with veteran presence for a year or two - still, drafting a starter at LT would be the most cost efficient way of filling that spot right now. |
Agree completely,If Mathews plays as well next year as this I wouldn't mind the high cost of trading up for him.LOT far too costly for us at the moment.
|
Re: Terron Armstead
how long will he last in the draft I still don't think he's a first round draft pick and then we don't draft until the 3 round.
|
Re: Terron Armstead
Well Charles Brown was picked as early as he was heavily due to his quick feet, so quickness and speed may not always be the indicator how good of a tackle a collegiate player becomes in the NFL.

Re: Terron Armstead
Lane Johnson, OT, Oklahoma is still my pick
Looks good but not so important 40 yards 4.72 ( second fastest time ever) now for OL these are important 10yard split 1.61 ( fastest ) three-cone drill 7.31 (fastest ) he was solid during the year and has nothing but proven tape does not lie. I see a solid player with a ton of upside. Now i am jumping on this band wagon. i liked him at the end of the season but had my questions answered But also with his climb that in my book is well worth it. That means a better defensive may slip through Tampa or Carolina to us that maybe get us that trade down bait we might need. |
