1 Attachment(s)
Ill keep updating as the numbers change, probably every few days... We have had some more restructures since march 1st.
New Numbers March 5th: NFL Cap for 2013 is $123.9M Saints active contracts = $127.9m Dead money = $836k 2012 cap rollover = $2.7 m Top 51 = 125.8M Present cap status $126.2m Approx Delta -$124,318K over <----- We have until March 12th to get this below $123.9m While we are all breathing a sigh of relief there is still some major hurdling to do. 1. We have to go through the draft. 2. Possibly pick up a few free agents. 3. The Salary Cap is TOTAL salary, this includes practice squad. 4. We want to start the season (September 4th Salary Cap Deadline) NO LESS than 3M below the cap in case of injuries etc... Previous Numbers from March 1st: NFL Cap for 2013 is $123M Saints active contracts $132m Dead money 836k 2012 cap rollover 2.7 m Top 51 = 128M March 1st cap status $126.2m Approx Delta -3.2m over You will notice the NFL Salary Cap has changed from 123 to 123.9 "There also is a per team minimum salary benefit of $900,000, setting total player compensation at $123.9M per team." Re: Saints March 5th Cap Status
Thanks Oak!
It'll be interesting to see what actually happens with Smith and Vilma, since it's going to have a huge effect on the cap one way or the other. |
Re: Saints March 5th Cap Status
Lets look at a scenario to get a feel for how much cutting is left.
Cushion - 3m Meeting the cap - 2.3m Free agent signings - Not even going to guess Practice Squad/ I am guessing here - 1m Present 7 Draft picks - 4m Still need to free up 10m |
Re: Saints March 5th Cap Status
So if Smith, Vilma are cut, that would be the money needed to sign Bushrod, De la Puente?

Quote:
We could jet De la Puenta and pick up a center in the draft. Although we wouldn't gain much cap space, his 2012 contract was for 540k, and a rookie contract would be in the neighborhood of 480k. I want to keep De la Puenta, I am just throwing the scenario out there. |
Re: Saints March 5th Cap Status
Here are the 2013 Rookie Salary and Cap estimates.
» Over the Cap- 2013 NFL Draft Pick Contract Estimates My guestimate was a little off. So we need to free up around 8m. |
Re: Saints March 5th Cap Status
I'd rather see them re-sign DLP than Bushrod simply because DLP will probably be more closer to the investment vs. return sweet spot than Bushrod.
Both are replaceable, but I would like to see some continuity with that interior of the O-line, which is its strength and Brees' lifeline. |
Re: Saints March 5th Cap Status
We should be able to include Goodell's salary as a credit as a recompense for bounty gate and taking one for the league. That works out to an extra $1 million per team, approximately. Can we wish for his entire salary for the Saints?
