Can't go wrong with the DB that led the league in pass breakups to be fair
He's a big, tall, physical corner and thats exactly what we needed

Reportedly Rob Ryan is still trying to get asomugha to come here after signing keenan lewis - NFL.com

Eagles signed CB Cary Williams, formerly of the Ravens, to a three-year, $17 million contract.

While Williams was a starter on the Super Bowl champion Ravens and posted four interceptions along with 17 pass deflections, he struggled mightily while under the microscope. During the regular season, opponents threw for 1,000 yards, six touchdowns, and a 91.6 quarterback rating while targeting Williams.
I'm liking our deal more and more.

Hopefully this will be a good long term signing.

Im not keen on singling out players when the whole defense had problems. You live and die as a unit.Everyone starts on a fresh page next year.
Well everyone except Ellis who can....

Asked my friend who is a Steelers fan what he thinks of the move and he said it is a great move. Was very high on him.

five-year, $26 million, including $11 million guaranteed?

not that bad can not wait for details.

Chargers sign CB Derek Cox (4 years, $20M; $10.25M guaranteed)

So the two got basically the same cash but Lewis does not have the injury history but then again does not have the hands that Cox has. Lewis is a much better tackler and might be the better press cover man.

So up and coming CB that finally caught on and started to improve his game big time. comes home to roost

i like the risk factor here

Only counts $1 million base salary toward 2013 cap. That is the important part!

Yep!! Loomis is the man! Plenty of cap space left for another couple of signings!

While im happy about him leaving plenty of cap space im worried about the future issues of keep putting back the costs.
I suppose thats why i work in security and Loomis is a millionaire GM

Next better be someone to protect Drew's blind side. Max Starks from Pitt is available but he's huge, slow, and useless in the screen game. We don't need to do Wayne Gandy all over again. I'm just not sold on Charles Brown.

Didn't personally see him play much, so I'm basing my opinion on things I've heard and read - seems like a solid signing and a good contract (at least short term).

Welcome to the black & gold Lewis!

Don't know if this has been mentioned, but according to nfl.com, he led the league is passes deflected with 16. He allowed only a 52.7% completion rate with passes tossed his way.

Keenan Lewis leaves Steelers for Saints homecoming - NFL.com

I just hope and pray he succeeds in our system. It seems like a lot of the time when we get excited about free agents signings like this, the players in question just happen to have ineffective seasons with us.

Saints Sign CB Keenan Lewis To Five-Year Deal
By: Brandon Dunn
Updated: March 14, 2013

The New Orleans Saints announced today that they have signed unrestricted free agent CB Keenan Lewis to a five-year contract. The announcement was made by Saints' Executive Vice President/General Manager Mickey Loomis.

"We are excited to be able to add a player of Keenan's ability to our defense," Loomis said. "He was a top free agent target for us and I know that he is very excited to be able to come home to play football."

"I'm very excited to be able to come back to my hometown," Lewis said. "Having grown up here I understand the passion that the fans have for the Saints and I'm blessed to be able to have the chance to play in front of them here in the future. I had a great visit with the Saints and am thankful for the time I spent with the Pittsburgh Steelers and wish them continued success."

Lewis, 6-0, 208 pounds, is a New Orleans native who prepped at O. Perry Walker High School and broke into the NFL as a third round draft pick (96th overall) in 2009 with the Pittsburgh Steelers where he spent the last four seasons. Lewis played his collegiate football at Oregon State, where he was a four-year starter for the Beavers.

Over the course of his four-year professional career, Lewis has played in 45 career regular season games, making 17 starts, and has registered 112 tackles (95 solo), one interception return for nine yards, 34 passes defensed and one forced fumble. On special teams he has chipped in 13 tackles and one forced fumble.

Lewis moved into the starting lineup for the first time in 2012, opening all 16 contests for the Steelers at left cornerback and posted 78 tackles (63 solo), an NFL-leading 28 passes defensed and one forced fumble for the NFL's top-ranked defense both overall and against the pass. He set career-highs in both tackles and passes defensed.

While at Oregon State, Lewis appeared in 50 games with 48 starts and was one of the team's top playmakers. He recorded career totals of 117 tackles (81 solo), seven interception returns, one for a touchdown, 30 passes defensed, one sack and one forced fumble. Lewis was a four-time Academic All-Pac 10 choice and received All-Pac 10 honorable mention as a senior, when he recorded 35 tackles and led the Beavers with four interceptions, one returned for a touchdown, for a unit that ranked second in the conference in total defense and third in pass defense.

Like it. If nothing else, the injuries in our secondary last year proved we need the depth. And at this point anyone could challenge P. Rob for the starter role.

I think Lewis automatically takes the opposite starting spot on the other side of Greer

Well, it's looking like another first round bust for the Saints in Patrick Robinson...

Who was available when the Saints drafted Robinson...

TE Rob Gronkowski, NE
LB Navorro Bowman, SF
LB Daryl Washington, AZ
RB Toby Gerhardt, MIN
FS Nate Allen
LB Sean Lee
LB Pat Angerer

Sean Lee is a stud in the making up here in big D. Amazing how Linebacker U (Penn State) consistently produce top notch linebackers at the NFL level. I would have been happy with taking either Lee or Bowman in that years draft. I'm not overly confident on Patricks status as starting CB for the Saints going forward.

Matt Miller, NFL Draft Scout and Member of the Pro Football Writers of America called the signing of Keenan Lewis on his twitter "The best signing I've seen so far today" and in his next tweet referred to Lewis as an "under-the-radar stud." I sure hope this Miller guy knows what he's talking about and is right. I'm liking this signing, let's hope we continue to make some more good moves.

He starts right away, someone is about to say goodbye to N.O.. Still need a left tackle or drew is toast, Drew could probably afford one with all that money he has.

What scares me about picking up Defensive players more particularly out of the AFC North is the fact no one plays Offense in that division, thus Defense is going to shine more.

Idk about Lewis but I really wanted Tracy porter signed. I hope Lewis turn out to be the next jabari

I wanted Nmandi, but I've read enough posts about this Lewis guy to convince me this was an excellent signing. Many respected and very knowledgeable posters preferred this young man to a lot of the big names before we signed him. Thats a good sign.

I think we have a winner here guys!

The Ravens managed to light up the 49ers Defense in one half of the Superbowl; the same 49ers Defense that stuffed Drew Brees and our offense last season...

I dont think the 49ers defense was good, they just generate turnovers much like our team did in 2009.

If Drew didnt throw 2 pick 6s, we would of beat San Fran.

He had the most batted balls down of any corner in the league last year and is great at man press coverage. :handguns:

We always blow our 1st round pick... only one that has panned out lately is Jordan but he still has a lot to prove...

Maybe done as in contract-wise, but I think he still has some quality years left in him from a purely performance based evaluation.

Last season was tough for him - and for the whole defense for that matter - because he simply couldn't get over those off/preseason injuries he sustained and therefore he was "behind the eight ball" the whole season long.

He is still a quality corner IMO, and the Saints should probably keep hold of him.

Yeah the type of injuries that Greer had at the start of the season are the kind that linger with you, it takes a lot longer to get over them and get "back to game speed" than some people realize. You don't just bounce back in two weeks.
