Possible New Orleans Saints target LB Victor Butler leaves Pittsburgh without a contract, source says
 

A possible New Orleans Saints outside linebacker target remains on the open market as Cowboys free-agent linebacker Victor Butler left his visit with the Steelers on Friday without a contract, according to a source.

On Thursday, a source said the Saints would be a top target for Butler if the linebacker left Pittsburgh without a contract.

The Saints are certainly looking for outside linebackers for their new 3-4 defensive scheme and Butler would fit the bill. Butler played under Saints defensive coordinator Rob Ryan the last two seasons in Dallas and would have a firm grasp of the system in New Orleans.

On a side note, freshly signed cornerback Keenan Lewis played with Butler during their college days at Oregon State making New Orleans a more intriguing landing spot for Butler.

The New Orleans Times-Picayune has been on top of Butler's whereabouts the last couple of days. Butler reportedly wants to join the Saints, but it's unclear if they'll bring him in for a visit. Mar 15 - 9:32 PM

Butler is currently visiting the Steelers, and they're reportedly pushing hard to land him to replace James Harrison. If he makes it out of Pittsburgh, then the next stop would likely be New Orleans with old defensive boss Rob Ryan. It would certainly help ease the pressure to draft for a specific position and allow them to pick the BPA, which is the strategy that probably is the best to take when keeping the long term success of a franchise in mind.

I have trouble watching that team even when they play the Saints so I've gotta ask, is he any good?
