Re: NFL Rumors – Saints Want Branden Albert
Albert was the OT I most wanted out of all the possible FAs this offseason before he got the tag placed on him.
I'd be all for getting him in the black & gold, because he would be an upgrade over Bushrod, but as it stands now, he has that $9.8M tag on him for next season and that's way too much money for the Saints. They'd need to negotiate a new contract with him to coincide with the trade and Albert would be probably looking for Jake Long type of money - in the ball park of $9M/yr. I just don't think the Saints can afford him, and that's why he'll probably end up in Miami out of the potential suitors mentioned in the article. He's a really good LT, but he hasn't been happy in Kansas City - who would be? - and his services are pricey; those are the two main reasons why the Chiefs might be looking for a trading partner for his services. |

Same assessment from me. Better than Bushrod, much better than anyone we still have, but still far too expensive for us. I don't see how we can get this done.

Gotta do something at LT

Re: NFL Rumors – Saints Want Branden Albert
Draft a LT. if K.C. is asking to much or trade a player of equal value.

The main problem is not the actual trade for Albert's rights, but the salary he would be asking for. He undoubtedly would be asking for a salary around the $8M/yr mark (maybe a little less, but more likely a little more) and the Saints just can't afford to spend that much on a LT with what they're already paying their guard tandem. Albert would be a great solution for the LT, IMO, but it's not a realistic solution because of the financial implications involved. |
