The Saints get more yardage than most NFL teams and have for years now. They didn't need YAC to make that happen.
It's certainly not an area of need, but it would be nice to have someone that can create in space and/or turn a 5 yard catch into a 30 yard gain.

That is such an incredibly dumb statement. Total yardage doesn't even come close to telling the entire story about an offense's efficiency. The fact of the matter is, due to our lack of speed and "elusiveness" at WR, we rely far to much on Brees to create big plays, which is one of the main reasons that his INT numbers fluctuate wildly. A playmaker that can get YAC and create big plays after Drew gets him the ball would take some of the pressure off of him. This is exactly why he was so enamored with the idea of getting Sproles a couple years ago.

Free-agent defensive lineman Kenyon Coleman visits with New Orleans Saints. Not signed as reported.

What's "incredibly dumb" is attacking my opinion on the Saints needs. There's no need to be a jerk.

The Saints have some players that have the ability to be the next "wow" guy. Morgan, Cadet, and Hakim to name a few. I'd rather see the Saints find out what these guys can do and focus on much bigger needs than use the only pick that they have in the first two rounds on a WR.

I didn't intend to be a jerk with my comment. I'm not a person that puts much stock in someone from the Internet telling me that something I said is dumb. I didn't mean any disrespect by it. I don't know you well enough to, even maliciously, call you a dumb person. I just felt like what you said was a little silly. My apologies for any hurt feelings.

Furthermore, while I don't advocate a WR selection in round one, I can still see how a player like Tavon Austin could be incredibly beneficial to the efficiency of our offense. There is a reason why guys like Rodgers, Brady, and P. Manning are continually talked about ahead of Brees, and it's because of guys that get them YAC and take pressure off of those QB's. As long as Drew is required to constantly thread the needle over and over to get us down the field, he will consistently have more picks and a slightly lower rating than the "other elites". Also, one of the reasons that our offense has led in yardage so much is because of our ineffective defense. An improved defense will cause a decrease in total offense. That will not make our offense any less effective but likely more efficient.

We also don't have to rely on our receivers and Graham to make bone crushing catches down field all the time. While our offense is great, there's always room for improvement... Which in turn will keep it that way.

This isn't me saying we need to target Austin in the first or anything, I've already said I'm against it before, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to add some more explosiveness to our offense.

I wouldn't be upset if the Saints landed another Sproles-type player in FA or through the draft (after round 3.) I just want to see a quality player on defense. I haven't seen one of those in a while. I doubt that's Coleman but we all understand what his signing brings to the Saints. Playbook knowledge.

I agree with all that you said after this.

Not cool.

IceShack is far from dumb.

He does live in one of the dullest places that I have ever lived.

Ice, are the Badger Den and the Silver Spur still open?

True that. I forgot how terrible we were after the catch last season.

Could be similar to a Willie Whitehead type signing.
