What is it with the screens? We cant run them and we cant stop them.

This is what happens when you\'ve got an offensive coordinator that\'s given up on them because the QB can\'t throw them. If the offense can\'t run it, the defense can\'t practice against it. Isn\'t it funny that Green Bay didn\'t have a problem running screen passes when McCarthy was there.


Even Billy Joe Tolliver could compleate a screen...

Hasbeen\'s desire to run a high octane aerial assault , has left no lead blocking for Duece and has taken the leader of the offense out of the game . Brooks aint got the fire , Hasselbeck looked more in command for Seattle . Hopefully we were watching the same game , I saw one were the high octane offense only managed 7 points . ;)

Look, if you want to start the season rubbing up against Brooks again, fine. He can\'t throw a short pass consistently. That\'s reality. In fact the only screen he can throw is a wide receiver screen because he\'s throwing it ten to fifteen yards. But when it comes to a five yarder, zilch.


You can argue with me all day long but you asked the question, I answered it. Brooks can\'t throw short. That\'s why screens aren\'t part of the Saints offense. If he could deliver the ball to the back you might see some blocking but if the back has to jump through hoops and make circus catches, it kinda renders the surprise of a screen pass useless, doesn\'t it.

I thought I already answered this but I\'ll try again. The defense never gets to practice against the screen because the offense doesn\'t run it. Why doesn\'t the offense run it? For the reasons regarding Brooks that I\'ve already stated.


Look, I know the first team defense practices against second team offense for game plan purposes. But screens are pretty much Defense 101. Unless your team can\'t or won\'t run them. If your defense can\'t practice against quality play execution (screens, posts, etc.) your defense can\'t and won\'t be effective against those types of plays.


If the Saints can\'t run a screen, how can they practice defending it? The defense probably looks great in practice against it. But against who is the real question. By game time, against teams that can run screens properly, the defense looks ineffective.

Brooks wasn\'t to blame, but he is lucky that he didn\'t have three or four INTs, I\'ll tell you that. Deuce has got to be PISSED that T-Rex is gone.

One question though - seriously - Do we all agree that the OFFENSE is what lost this game? If so, other than McCarthy, who we all now know for sure is poo, who hurt the O most?

I am not a huge fan of Brooks, but his play is most definitely not to blame for this one. Everything\'s already been said about blame tonight.

I never thought I\'d hate an offensive coordinator more than Carl Smith. I was wrong.

I hate to quote myself, but I said in a post the other day, \"Carl Smith was cremated; McCarthy snorted the ashes.\"

This loss hurts. It hurts bad.... not because we lost, but because our defense actually looked better. Our balliedhooed (that\'s for you JKool) offense didn\'t carry a fraction of it\'s weight. They were all bad except for Joe (anyone still wanna trade him?).

This is one game, sure, but like Halo said in another thread, we\'ve seen this movie before.

McCarthy is awful.

However, Jim Haslett shoulders the blame for what gives every sign of being Last Year 2.0.

These guys just aren\'t ready to play. I honestly wonder what these guys do in practice. I wonder where McCarthy draws up his game plan and whether he bothers to tell anyone else what the plan is. The entire organization just seems so half-azzed that they can\'t really work up the effort to work hard and play smart.

Hey Gator, I know you are loving these threads. I really believe after that so called game yesterday the entire offensive coaching staff needs to be fired. There are enough coaches out there looking for work that would do alot better job. I agree that we have probably one of the most talented teams in football, but talent is waisted if you don\'t know how to use it.

hes been there long enough and gets us in the same situation over and over again. How does the big dogs not see this and get a new O-coordinater. They have some seriously good coaches in college to look at. That should be our #1 draft pick next year.

He is unbelievable in the plays he continues to call. I think he just pulls plays off of madden 2005..
