although they did not play good. they played at times ok n i thought a little better then last year. watson is going to be good. but our real problem today was our offense. n it wasnt brroks who in m mind him and horn had the best game. im starting to love brooks. he played excellent today. problem was play calling n turn overs. thank god it is only one game. we still have a chance to be 3-1 after our first four. but we will be lucky if we keep this up to go 8-8. but i still have hope

How is this for hope. We somehow win all our division games; and the rest screw up so badly we get into the playoffs on 6-10!

After all the radio commentators said the good news is Washington winning today!!!

How can you say he played excellent today? They scored 7 points. Pathon dropped a couple and the line didnt hold up, but he didnt play excellent. He was still the same Brooks who refuses to step up in the pocket , and cant sense a pass rush.

i dont know how u can say this is brooks fault. thats just silly. he played excellent today. n i love him as our qb. this is a team game not a one man show.

I ain\'t getting into the Brooks thing already. I have only listened on the radio and not seen the actual plays.

What I believe (and I could be wrong LOL!) is that the TEAM were poor. Brroks getting pressurized easity, dropped passes, fumbles when seemingly in control of the ball, missed tackles allowing potential no gains to turn into 1st downs and a touchdown, 15 yard penalty when we do get a turnover, the reasons for timeouts in the 1st half........

Oh I withdraw all of that; I am being unrealistically negative.

He dropped at least 3 that I remember right off. Boo dropped at least 3 too. Then there was the RB fumble and Boo\'s fumble, and you guys point to Brooks? Amazing.

For a QB to step up in the pocket there has to BE a pocket.

You miss a lot when it comes to Brooks. He has no pass rush sense and he doesn\'t step up in the pocket. You can act like it ain\'t so til you\'re blue. His won-loss record proves it.

BTW, a lack of pass rush sense also accounts for why he\'s so pathetic at throwing screen passes (see other thread). I don\'t know how many times we have to go over this. A successful QB wins games. Period. Brooks learned nothing from Favre probably because he was wasting his time wondering whether he should be a scrambler or a pocket passer.

Brooks was successful during the Saints playoff year because his mobility made up for his inability to throw touch passes. Now that he\'s a \"pocket passer\" that inability is magnified for all to see. Keep making excuses for him and you\'ll continue to see this team languish in mediocrity. It\'s happened so far and there\'s absolutely no reason to think it\'ll change anytime soon.

And 18 of 37 is not \"excellent\" Take your blinders off you might actually learn why this team isn\'t winning consistently.

I didn\'t say he was \"excellent\". Pay attention to whom you\'re posting. As for Brooks...you and the rest of the bashers just pick right on up where you left off last year. Blame him for poor blocking. Blame him for fumbles. Blame him for the inability of our DEFENSE to stop screens. Whatever helps you sleep.

Personally, I saw a team run the ball down our throats. I saw OUR team fail to run the ball. I saw our QB hit his receivers in the hands (again) only to watch \'em drop it. I saw our RB fumble the ball away. I saw our TE do it too. I saw bland (predictable) play calling, but you keep right on blaming this loss on the QB. What e-v-e-r. :casstet:

Good points saintsfan.

The majority of blame for this debacle doest wear shoulderpads on Sundays.

Brooks didn\'t look good at all but the other 52 didn\'t impress me much either.

I foresee another rough yearfor me and all SAINTS fans. It starts getting really OLD when no matter what level of talent our team is able to cobble together, they still find a way to make the very least of it.

I for one can\'t put all (or even most) of the blame on Brooks for today\'s debacle. It belongs squarely on the back of the coaching staff.

Sure, Brooks could\'ve been better. He could be more of the leader and playmaker that we all wish he was and puled the game out of his a$$ with extraordinary runs, throws while under endless pursuit and just plain finesse. But that just is not likely ever going to be the case.

It\'s also just not in Brooks\' genetic makeup to be the cheerleader, the one that fires up the troops. And he will never (IMHO) be compared to Farve or any other great scrambling, throw-on-the-run QB. BUT, he could be a significantly better than average QB if he is given adequate protection and was coached better so that he learns how to make the most out of the protection and opportunities he is given. And no, I don\'t think he has been!

The real underlying problem with this loss and countless other disappointments over the past few years is that the team as a whole has not been shown how to win. And that is the fault of Haz.

You can have the greatest players in the world on your team, but if you don\'t teach them the right skills, put them in the right positions, play them when you should and not be affraid to pull them when they can\'t do the job, as well as be creative, call the right plays and schemes on both sides of the ball, use the right mix of encouragement and discipline, lead by example (which also means placing blame where it belongs and accepting it when you deserve it) and most of all. instill in them the drive to win, you\'ll never wear a Superbowl ring.

I just don\'t think Haz and his staff have done these things anywhere near as well as they could be done. Our record proves that and that\'s why we keep losing when we should be winning.

BTW, it would not hurt if people would learn to hold onto the ball a little better. My solution: run drills 6, 8, 10, 12 hours a day until this improves. But hey, that\'s Haz\'s department.

As always, this is just my opinion.

Geaux SAINTS,

David in Houston

Oh I see now, nothing but geniuses around here. We suck because we can\'t execute screen passes. Thats right. My bad.

You can name every successful quarterback in the league, but I guarantee you that their wide receivers dont drop the ball like we do. Also, our play calling is so predictable and just doesnt make sense.
