LaTech OT Jordan Mills visiting Saints.
Jordan Mills Profile
Louisiana Tech offensive tackle Jordan Mills is going to visit the New Orleans Saints, according to league sources with knowledge of the situation. Mills is a first-team All-Western Athletic Conference selection who's regarded as a rising draft prospect. He's the cousin of Green Bay Packers cornerback Tramon Williams. Some draft analysts project him from the second round to third round. The 6-foot-5, 316-pounder ran the 40-yard dash in 5.23 seconds at the NFL scouting combine. He bench pressed 225 pounds 20 times, registering a 28 1/2 inch vertical leap, a 28 1/2 inch vertical leap, an 8-5 broad jump, a 4.88 20-yard shuttle and an 8.10 three-cone drill. Mills has drawn comparisons to Baltimore Ravens offensive tackle Michael Oher. Scout.com: Jordan Mills Profile |

Ranked 9th among OTs (by NFLDraftScout.com) and projected to be picked in the 2nd or 3rd round.

Re: LaTech OT Jordan Mills visiting Saints.
Solid tackle. Helped keep Colby Cameron upright in that high-powered offense Louisiana Tech had last year. It's a crying shame that Tech's athletic director screwed the pooch by waiting on a bowl game that never came around. There were some good prospects on that team that didn't get to showcase their talents one more time in front of a national audience and scouts. Pro Days don't tell the entire story of a player.

I seem to recall another tackle the Saints took from La.Tech. He worked out pretty well.

Re: LaTech OT Jordan Mills visiting Saints.
He seems level-headed and brings a good work ethic to the table. He would be a good third-rounder for us. Or maybe we could trade down and pick him up in the second, if his value is actually rising.

Re: LaTech OT Jordan Mills visiting Saints.
I'd still opt for Barrett Jones and Chris Faulk, even though Faulk wouldn't probably be much help in this coming season coming off of his injury, but if he was healthy - he'd be a 1st rounder and out of Saints' reach.

Because Faulk would probably be a high 1st rounder if he hadn't injured himself, which has caused his draft value to fall and has made it possible to get a high 1st round talent LT with as low as a 5th round picks. To me there's huge potential value in that type of a pick, but naturally Faulk has to pass the medicals in terms of that his recuperation from the injury is advancing as it should be (reports I've read say that he is indeed doing that). Like I've said in another thread already, I think these picks would be all about the future and not necessarily the here and now. Faulk probably would be a red shirt rookie in his first year, while Jones could already take snaps this coming season at virtually any of the O-line positions, but the end goal with him would be that he'd replace De La Puente as the starting center in 2014 and perhaps replacing either Grubbs or Evans as one of the starting guards at a later date. Faulk would be the starting LT in 2014, while Marcel Jones would be the starting RT after being developed another year behind Strief, and potentially stepping in if Strief gets injured again. So, in this scenario, the Saints would either roll the dice with Charles Brown as the LT or get a vet 1-year hire to man that LT position until Faulk can get to the line-up. I think this scenario would be very cost efficient, since they could get a 1st round LT talent at a 5th round price in both a draft pick and a rookie contract, so they could save some money to re-sign players like Graham. |
Re: LaTech OT Jordan Mills visiting Saints.
I can say this our scouts do a good job on finding talent on the o-line so I'm sure we will find a good tackle.
