Training Camp Battles

This will be the most competitive training camp since GW arrived and we won the Superbowl. There is some competition on offense between left tackle and wide receiver........we may see some stiff competition at right tackle as well. :duel:

On the defensive side of the ball there is competition at almost every position. Defensive end with Cam Jordan is pretty much a lock but beyond that every spot on defense is up for grabs.........we don't even know where Lofton will line up.
We've actually got a signifant amount of talent on the defensive side of the ball that could be ready to hit the ground running.

I'm most excited to see the line backing competition with this switch to a 3-4. What training camp battle are you most excited to see?

Robinson versus Greer for the #2 CB

The Nickel CB

The WOLB (Galette, Wilson, Butler or Draft Pick)

I'm also interested in who plays where. We have 4 LB's that could play 3 or more positions. Who's our starting 4, and at what position?

Will Hicks be a back-up DT or start at DE?

Those are some really great questions.

DE opposite Jordan. Will it be Hicks or Smith? Can Johnson sneak up and claim the spot? Are we going to be loyal to the vets on the team or are we going to let the best man win?

I just hope our position battles are all on an even keel regardless of age and experience.

With the exception of Keenan I don't see any more talent on that side of the ball than we had last year. Gonna love to see the competition at WR though.

Huh? I don't think you can discount players changing to a defensive scheme that better suits their talents.

Galette and Wilson are probably much better talent wise in a 3-4 than a 4-3.

Bunkley graded out as one of the best 3-4 NT in the NFL 2 years ago.

Most scouts thought Jordan was a much better fit as a 3-4 DE than a 4-3 DE.

All of our CB's are better suited for a man scheme than a zone scheme.

Butler is probably a better rush backer than anyone we had on our team.

Vilma and Hawthorne are now healthy.

This

I really hope we don't favor some players due to their length with the organization (Smith vs Hicks).

These players have the exact same amount of talent they had last year, not taking into the equation that they progress due to experience. Like you said the scheme has changed, not the talent.

With the implementation of the 3-4, I expect the Big Lebowski to put players in better postion to succeed much like he did in Dallas & will not hesitate to 'light a fire' or introduce you to the bench if you can't produce regardless of tenure.

This years training camp should be interesting.
