Cut Harper spent money on FA?

Are there still any reasonable players left that we might pick up after releasing Harper?

ok our cap is hosed in 2014 again. reports are it is going to be worse than this year.

granted harper cap will cost us
2013 7,100,000
2014 7,900,000

but the dead money we carry over in
2013 is 6,100,000
2014 should be about the same 6,100,000 or a bit more

opening up 1,000,000 for 2013

then carry a cap hit of another 6,100,000 in 2114?

it does not make sense cap wise

trade is all you got and even then that contract needs to be redone. Until we see what this first round pick gives us on the field i do not see him going any where

This has to be the last seasons of Vilma/Harper and Smith.
Any idea how we do with the cap cutting them after the upcoming season.
It's going to be a a couple of years of cap hell the way we are.
I think Drew restructures next summer.

I meant the last seasons with the Saints not in football.

besides we need to see if Kenny is the answer still. my gut says we redo harper to a 3 year contract with a friendly cap contract. why because if Kenny is to correct the his game it will take a few years. tackling and hands takes time. tackling is mostly mental in my opinion. Hands? thats hard usually have them or you don't so that will be interesting to see.
so harper will be needed. at least we know he can tackle other than that i see no real difference in the two players. oh yeah Kenny is a bit slower

Harper's and Jenkins jobs are safe. redo the contracts

Re: Cut Harper spent money on FA?

The only way I see this affecting Harper is if Jenkins moves to SS. I actually think SS might better suit Jenkins, but I certainly don't think he would be all that much better over there. I'm guessing he moves to nickel back and Harper stays where he is, unless we somehow find a team to trade him to.

Or they may cut Malcolm. With the Signing of Keenan Lewis, that's going to bump either Robinson or Greer out of their starting role (I presume it will be P-Rob). Couple that with Corey White coming back after showing some signs of promise, and there is gonna be a log jam for that nickel spot. Personally, I'd cut P-Rob if it came down to him or Jenkins, but neither of them give me a warm fuzzy feeling.

I should add that this is assuming Vaccaro will be a FS. He seems to be a hybrid though, so everything I said might be a moot point. I just don't think we can afford the cap hit of cutting Harper, so I'm thinking Kenny plays FS, at least for now.

Dead money accelerates to the present year... So what you see in 2013 is the dead money accumulation of 2013 and 2014. It is prorated for distribution but in the case of cutting a player and it coming forward, there is a complex calculation.

Scroll to the bottom to get an idea. Actually the scenario that is used is not too far from Harpers Contract.

Harpers dead money next season will be in the 2M range.
