Mayock
gave us a C. According to him we needed a LB and we didnt draft for that.
|
Re: Mayock
Kind of hard to address all needs with the limited number of picks!
Unlike other teams, we don't a half-dozen compensatory picks to work with or our second rounder because Goodell hates us. |
Re: Mayock
We also needed safety help, an offensive tackle, WR depth, and being that we've moved to a 3-4, a big projectable NT. And last I checked, Rufus Johnson will be a OLB as he's too small to play end in a 3-4.

Re: Mayock
LBs Thomas and Reddick as UDFA--both projected middle round draft picks. Shut up, Mayock.
|
Re: Mayock
Yeah, Reddick was projected as a 4-5 round pick and Thomas was projected as a 3-4 round pick by DraftScout, so I think the Saints did well to land them as UDFAs.
|
Re: Mayock
So we get knocked for not drafting for need?
I thought it was common knowledge that drafting for need leads to failure. So I'll bet the 49ers got an A since they addressed every need position and every non-need position. |
Re: Mayock
grade the palyers? BPA? needs only?
sometimes he is an idot. stick to players and leave team evals alone. you only make a fool out of yourself mike |
Re: Mayock
Unfortunately UDFAs arent draft picks.... His job is to grade the draft, not what happens after it. With the limited number of draft picks we could have done better. We did do well, nobody is saying that we didn't do well. But not as well as we could have.....
- We let Pittsburgh get Jarvis Jones for nothing. - Okafor fell past the point of no return and we still didn't pick him - You could have done the deal with the Jets and just used the pick and still got your guy moving up was probably un-needed. Just grading our draft alone... We hit a double, not a home run... |
Re: Mayock
We actually have some very good linebackers on the roster, I'm sure Rob Ryan will do better with them than Spags did.
|
Re: Mayock
Cause we didn't do exactly what him and the other 'analysts' expected. Get over it, Mike.

Re: Mayock
3-4 linebackers are like running backs, a dime a dozen. Get a guy that's big and fast and he'll have success. Less responsibility and less decision-making, and a more defined role from play to play than he would have in a 4-3.
There's a reason why every single team that runs a 3-4 is known for having good linebackers. And we still have Vilma/Lofton/Hawthorne even if they didn't acquire another single LB. Those guys aren't exactly dog meat out there. Yes, Mayock is an idiot. You only have to look at his draft board to see the Saints were taking players that graded out well above the ones in surrounding draft spots. Saints had a fine draft. |

The only team that got an A was the vikings. Everything else Bs and Cs. |
Re: Mayock
No one will remember this.

Re: Mayock
Meanwhile, listen to him gush over Terron Armstead...
|
Re: Mayock
After we passed on Jarvis Jones, and Jamie Collins didn't fall to us I really didn't expect or care for the Saints to draft a linebacker. With the Signing of Victor Butler, if we couldn't land a legitimate pass rushing OLB early in the draft there wasn't that much of a reason to worry about it in the later rounds.
And as has been mentioned, we got middle round prospects as UDFA's, so that settles it. |

Re: Mayock
Only grade that matters is W's and Ls
IMHO we did well on paper. The W's and Ls in Jan are the only grades that mean anything. |
Re: Mayock
Butler, Lofton, Hawthorne, Vilma, Galette, Wilson, then our new UDFAs. Plenty of LBs IMHO...whether they'll work together in the new system is a different story. I didn't like the Vaccaro pick, so that dude needs to prove me and those who think similarly about him wrong.
But if this all translates into more "W's" than "L's", then who cares? I'll eat that crow and like it. |
Re: Mayock
Vaccaro was the right choice. Secure the middle of the secondary with a versatile player who can cover half the field as well as play the box.
We haven't had a guy like that since....? |

Re: Mayock
If you have 15 draft choices you are going to have to cut someone. More choices doesn't mean better players picked.
There used to be 17 rounds. Most of the UFA would have been picked somewhere in there. They don't have the "drafted" tag to go with being signed. |

Re: Mayock
Mayock makes me wanna kill something. stupid is as mayock does
|
Re: Mayock
He should just keep to grading players........that is what he's good at.
|
Re: Mayock
Grading a draft days after the draft is about like grading a test after a study session; before the actual test has been taken.
|
Re: Mayock
I also heard Mayock, in another interview, when asked who was most likely to get offensive and defensive rookies of the year, the first defensive name he mentioned was Vaccaro. So, he's basically just talking to hear himself talk.
