Re: Rob Ryan: Everybody is Competing on Defense
Ryan must be under some sort of gag order or something . He didn't run his mouth about anything and I was so surprised that he didn't try to be bigger than life.

Re: Rob Ryan: Everybody is Competing on Defense
I like it. A new attitude to this defense is just what we need.

I think most of us would be will to buy him some groceries for just getting this D to be ranked #20 in the league...

Re: Rob Ryan: Everybody is Competing on Defense
20 I want a #1 rated D.

Re: Rob Ryan: Everybody is Competing on Defense
Thats the way it should be, no ones spot is safe until youve fought for it

Re: Rob Ryan: Everybody is Competing on Defense
2 seasons ago we were 13th best defense in points allowed, and we didn't have the talent or depth we have now.
We've replaced Shanle, Cassillas, Porter, McBride, Herring, Dunbar, Rogers, Franklin, Charleston, Ellis, and King. Starters in red. We can surely become a top tier defense with who we have now. Talent isn't the problem. |

Re: Rob Ryan: Everybody is Competing on Defense
We were not the worst in the league in 2012, its mind blowing how when it comes to offense no one cares about yards, but only the score board. When the discussion changes to defense people only look at yardage.
Defense In 2012 we were 31st in PPG 28.4 In 2011 we were 13th in PPG 21.2 In 2010 we were 7th in PPG 19.2, In 2009 we were 20th in PPG 21.3 (the sky didnt fall) There is only a 7 point difference between our Super Bowl winning Defense and our 2012 defense. We do not, nor have we had the worst defense in the league during the Payton era. We did have one season where we had the wrong coach coaching our defense. 2012 was not the defense, it was the coaching. Offense In 2012 we were 3rd in PPG 28.8 In 2011 we were 2nd in PPG 34.2 In 2010 we were 11th in PPG 24 In 2009 we were 1st in PPG 31.9 In 2012 that is a .4 PPG delta between allowed and scored. Between 2011 and 2012 there is a 12.6 point differential between points scored and points allowed, and that reflected in our record. Spagnuolo is gone, our defense remains, and is has been and is still a defense that can get us to a Championship. http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/05/30/umaresa9.jpg |

This defense should be, at the very worst, middle of the pack. |
Re: Rob Ryan: Everybody is Competing on Defense
Crikey! Thirty-first, thirty-second, what's the difference? We were just flat out awful! I'm with Hagan that it'd take a really bad **** flingin' monkey to put us back where we were last year. So if Rob's just a plain old monkey, we end up way far into the playoffs with a middle of the road defense. If he's a good coach then this season becomes legend......wait for it.......throw in a Who Dat right here..... dary!

I'm getting excited for the season already... Can't wait to see the Saints in the new scheme
