New Orleans Saints cornerback Patrick Robinson striving for 'fresh start' after rough 2012 season
1 Attachment(s)
New Orleans Saints cornerback Patrick Robinson can't find a shredder large enough to ruin every piece of film from his Week 16 outing against the Dallas Cowboys last season, in particular his matchup with receiver Dez Bryant.
He also knows there's no delete button or reset option. It's part of his résumé now. Robinson ducked and shook his head with a laugh when his performance against Bryant sprung up in conversation last week. He knows that's what many people remember from him most last season. Bryant piled up nine catches for 224 yards, including two 58-yard touchdown receptions, with Robinson on the coverage. A breakdown of Robinson's Week 16 performance went as follows via Pro Football Focus: "Given the unfortunate task of shadowing Bryant the entire game, Robinson allowed 9-of-12 passes thrown his way to be completed -- all but one to Dez -- including each of his long (58-yard) touchdowns. And though he did have a big pass breakup in overtime, the cornerback allowed a near-perfect QB rating of 156.3." Also according to Pro Football Focus, Robinson surrendered the most yards (1,071) of any cornerback in the league last season. The criticism and unflattering statistics vs. Dallas aren't foreign to the mild-mannered Robinson. That's why his attitude entering the 2013 season should be encouraging for Saints Coach Sean Payton and defensive coordinator Rob Ryan, who saw Robinson's performance firsthand while with the Cowboys last season. "I take it (2013) as a fresh start; I'm going to try my hardest to get better every day," Robinson said. "I have to come in fresh. ... "As far as last year, I'm going to try to forget about it. I'm going to try to make a way better (impression)." Re: New Orleans Saints cornerback Patrick Robinson striving for 'fresh start' after rough 2012 season
When half of the completions resulted in P-Rob looking around wondering who was supposed to cover who, its hard to put all the blame on P-Rob.
I saw more palms up confusion by our DB's in 2012 than the previous 6 years combined. I think he comes on strong in 2013. |
Re: New Orleans Saints cornerback Patrick Robinson striving for 'fresh start' after rough 2012 season
Dude has a steep hill to climb. Good thing for him it won't take much show improvement from last season. I've defended him in the past. He seemed to be so close to making critical interceptions for us last year.

Re: New Orleans Saints cornerback Patrick Robinson striving for 'fresh start' after rough 2012 season
I'm fine with P-Rob. He was - at worst - a solid starting corner in 2011. I'm not going to throw him under the bus with all that went on last year. Put him up in press coverage and let him do his thing, he'll be fine.

Yeah, and that same publication (PFF) said P-Rob "had arrived" after 2011. The kid is 24 years old, it's not like he lost a step or suddenly forgot how to play football. Maybe he can't play in a Spagnuolo zone defense, guess what Spag got fired so we don't have to worry about that anymore.

Re: New Orleans Saints cornerback Patrick Robinson striving for 'fresh start' after rough 2012 season
I don't give him a pass last year. The guy has shown no ability to be a consistent, even serviceable, CB in the NFL since he was drafted. If he wasn't a former first rounder, he would have already been cut. I personally won't be shocked if he's not on the Saints opening day roster.

Care to guess what he was ranked among all corners in football that year? I'll give you a hint: It was higher than his uniform number. |

He may come on strong in the new scheme but I believe this is his last chance, fail this year and he's gone I also think he should be the nickel CB, Let lewis and greer have the outsides |

Our defense is going to shock people this year, in a good way. Not in the bad way that it shocked people last year.

Re: New Orleans Saints cornerback Patrick Robinson striving for 'fresh start' after rough 2012 season
Boy we have sorry luck with these 1st rounders especially defensively. As a 1st you have to show up or you are a bust period. Its like putting up good money after bad trying to recoup your losses. I am hopeful they all show up even Robinson but just personally I don't like him or what he has brought to the team thusfar. Of course this is just a blatant personal opinion.

Re: New Orleans Saints cornerback Patrick Robinson striving for 'fresh start' after rough 2012 season
Some of us seem to forget a crucial fact in regards to rookies on either side of the ball that we have picked up in 2011 and 2012. OTA's are extremely important for Rookies.
2013 is the first season we have had OTA's. 2011 - Lock out 2012 - We had TA's but with Bountygate they were not very Organized. |
Re: New Orleans Saints cornerback Patrick Robinson striving for 'fresh start' after rough 2012 season
Ryan is looking at every one for the first time. He doesn't have any preconceived notions about who should be starting. He is playing different players in different positions and then evaluating those players based on performance.
Personally, I think that since Darren Sharper left he's been lost and brain dead. He's a phenomenal athlete.........but he ain't the sharpest tool in the shed. |

Re: New Orleans Saints cornerback Patrick Robinson striving for 'fresh start' after rough 2012 season
Robinson did do SOME good things last year.
He had a 56% completion allowed, which is very good. And while he may have only gotten 3 interceptions, he had 14 passes defended which was tied for 3rd best in the league among cornerbacks. And he is credited with 60 tackles which puts him at number 16 in the league at corner. Where he got killed was the yards he gave up. Which could be an indication that he wasn't getting the help he was supposed to be getting. |
