Q: Mike, is there something in the approach to practices that helps explain the sloppy fundamentals that have plagued this team for quite some time?

A: David, it's called being mentally tough. This all boils down to coaching, but to be honest they practice these plays each and every day. Coaches can't blame the players, because they brought these players in. This is Jim Haslett's team and with his coaches and his players. I can't understand it either. It's like the old saying that practice makes perfect, but to be honest perfect practice makes things perfect. Again, I will say this again this is not a very well coached team and the team reflects some of the poor coaching that goes on. Just look at the gameplan they had against Seattle and you will understand, especially when you have prepared for this club for the past 6 months.
The entire "Ask Mike" column was interesting reading. Looks like Detillier has no confidence in the current coaching/personnel regime. What really concerns me at this point is that some of our guys may be too far gone for a new coach to rehabilitate. (I'd still like to hear Halo's take on how the organization has ruined Brooks by the way).

I've got to wonder how many of our existing roster we'd have to cut/deal in order to even get in shouting distance of a solid group of players for a new coach to try and work with. In short, I'm concerned that even if we could find our Marvin Lewis, we'd have a team full of Cory Dillon's for him to try to work with.

By the way, the entire Deuce/AB debate raging across this board mystifies me. The QB gets more blame and credit than he ever deserves, it's the nature of the position, so he's held to a higher standard. Is it fair? Nope. Is it fair that the QB is generally the highest paid member of the team? Nope. So the big $$$ bring more scrutiny.

The problem that has this organization by the throat is that now Haslett has HIS players and still suffers weekly from the same problems we've seen for several years. It looks like Haslett has run out of players to point the finger at. Meanwhile back at the ranch, the players seems over-eager to join in with the fingerpointing and excuse making. It looks for all the world like the organization is on the verge of melting down and everyone is trying to make sure they have a spot in the lifeboats.

I think the entire team "hears footsteps". There's no way we can be successful in that sort of environment. By the way, Detillier thinks we'll need a flawless offense to get to 8-8 this year. I don't see any reason to doubt him at this point.

A doubt that our offense will be flawless and I would wager we will still win 8 games, without Deuce too.
