Lewis the Key?
While I'm not sure Keenan Lewis is the key to a good defense, he is going to be an important part of it.

Re: Lewis the Key?
The key to the defense will be the front 7 and how much pressure we can get on the QB, but like you said Keenan Lewis is going to be a huge part of it
We finally have an aggressive corner with both good size and speed, if he can force the QB to wait a second longer than he wants to with good coverage then our OLB's have real opportunities to make plays and vice versa |
Re: Lewis the Key?
Just means that Robinson/Greer whoever is starting on the other side will be picked on quite frequently...

Re: Lewis the Key?
We also have some versatility in the secondary, with Kenny Vaccaro playing safety, but apparently able to cover slot receivers (which, in today's NFL, oftentimes includes TEs). And Malcolm Jenkins, able to play corner, even though his ability to play FS is still in question.
Whenever you have versatility, injuries are less damaging than they might otherwise be. |
Re: Lewis the Key?
I have not seen decent pressure since the Heavy Lunch Bunch and even those moments were few and far between.
We could have 3 Neon Deon's back there and it would not matter. Have to create some havoc up front. |

Re: Lewis the Key?
All 11 players that are our defensive starters are the key to a good defense. Keenan Lewis can completely shut down a receiver but what will it matter if there's no pass rush and other receiver's getting open. For example, Jabari Greer has been a fantastic CB at times over the years (when healthy)... But it hasn't mattered since the defense as a whole hasn't been firing on all cylinders.

Re: Lewis the Key?
There will never be another Dion but even he would've struggled covering receivers with our raggedy ass front seven. If we had Dion in his prime last year he probably would've had to play zone knowing the great Spags.

Hahaha! No way I'm watching a bunch of whiners, clowns n cow pies games to prove a point on the internet. How the hell did he come into this thread anyway? Next we'll be puttin' him and T***w in the same backfield knowing neither one's gonna be the key to our defense.

Did you just say you can sympathize with a football player for not doing his job because it hurts? Yes, if you are anywhere on defense, tackling is part of your damn job description it's 1/2 of what you do at the least. What is a CB expected to do when the receiver he is covering catches a pass? |

Re: Lewis the Key?
Deion Sanders is a douche
Nowadays teams would just run at him all day because he was too much of a wimp to make a tackle |
Re: Lewis the Key?
I like the match up with falclowns wrs much more with him in the fold.

deion was a freak of nature at CB and just plainly a freak off the field.

So in your opinion if a receiver caught a pass when Dion was covering him it was a lineman or linebackers responsibility to tackle that receiver? That make complete sense. Night Train, Sharper and Woodson own the records Sanders wish he had. |

Plus none of the people you named ever had the whole NFL avoiding them. Deion had 492 tackles over his career and averaged 38 tackles a season. Thats including injury years and the move to safety. Just fine for a cornerback. Jabari Greer averages 42. I'm done with it though. You're in the minority anyway. I could post plenty of things to dispute your claim, but its a waste of time. Keep pretending like if Deion spent his career as a Saint you wouldn't be singing a different tune. |
Re: Lewis the Key?
As much as I enjoy the debate on Primetime...he can't help us in 2013 but Keenan Lewis can.
