Former Black & Gold writer Kenny Wilkerson passes away

Sports radio broadcaster and blogger Kenny Wilkerson, who spent more than a decade covering the New Orleans Saints for WWL Radio and BlackAndGold.net as beat writer for the Saints died Saturday.
Colleagues said Wilkerson died after battling cancer. A New Orleans native, Wilkerson spent 17 years at WWL Radio, as a sports reporter and host, as well as a sideline reporter during Saints Radio Network broadcasts of New Orleans Saints football games. He co-hosted the station’s daily “Sports Talk” program with New Orleans sports icon Buddy Diliberto up until his death in 2005, and later co-hosted the program alongside former Saints quarterback Bobby Hebert. Thoughts and prayers to his family. I use to like it when he would kind heartedly mess with Buddy. It would put a smile on my face when there wasn't much to smile about concerning Saints football.

A lot of the old timers are starting to slip away. All the originals are old men now. When I think about all the hard core fans I knew who never got to see the Saints win it all....

I enjoyed his work. He was a good broadcaster, and told a good story.
Im feelin ya, Boutte. We're at that age where everyone we know starts dying. Im glad to have other guys here who remember, and even more glad to have guys here who remember what Im too young to remember. |
