Saints History
Apologies if this is posted in wrong place and if it is covered somewhere else. As a newcomer to the Saints I was wondering if there was a website or book or anything else that would be worth looking through to come up to speed with a full history of the team, players and organisation. This might just help me get up to the level of probably everybody else on here with knowing who's who and what's what.
Thanks in advance. |

Re: Saints History
Ideal thanks for that some good reading for down time in work.
Ok got to ask it and again probably be shot down for this, where does the Who Dat originate from tempted to get one of the t-shirts with the fleur-des-lys and Who Dat purely to scramble heads here in Scotland. |
Re: Saints History
Nice to see another UK Saints fan.
Wikipedia is pretty good for a quick overview of Saints history and civers individual seasons too. |
Re: Saints History
More UK fans than I thought there would be, most you see over here are Raiders or Cowboys although did work beside a die hard Packers fan.
Reading through the Wikipedia stuff as well and going through the forum a lot of catching up to do but looking worth it. |
Re: Saints History
What made you choose the Saints?.
Id been a fan of the NFL for a good few years but was watching most weeks and decided it was time yo pick a team and without any ties to any team started narrowing down a few teams and remembered listening to the 09 Championship game on BBC radio at work and how much I was pulling for a Saints win jumped on the bandwagon. |
Re: Saints History
Pretty much the same I used to watch but never really had any allegiances to any particular team or area unlike Hockey. I did one of these joke which team best suits your personality and it came up with the Saints, thought it fitted in perfectly as have always had a love and admiration of New Orleans in terms of music, food, culture so made my choice on there.

Re: Saints History
There's a book entitled "Bags to Riches". Admittedly, I have not read it, but I bought it because Deuce was signing autographs. Nonetheless, it's a history of the Saints.

Re: Saints History

Re: Saints History
Welcome to Black and Gold and welcome to Who Dat Nation! Here is a great reference site which contains detailed statistical information about the franchise since its first season.

Re: Saints History
You can also just ask some of us that have been fans since day one of the franchise. I was nine when my dad was transferred to Barksdale AFB in northwestern Louisiana in the early summer of 1967. I was more of a baseball fan at the time, but did follow as much NFL as I could. I was overjoyed when I discovered that my new home state was getting its own NFL team. The rest is history. I live, breathe and bleed Saints football.

Re: Saints History
Try this. It's pretty good. Covers the first twenty years of the franchise and Book 2 picks up from there.

Re: Saints History
Thanks for the help and advice everyone and Guido I could happily sit and pick your brain over everything you must have seen over the years, I wouldn't want to overstep the mark and annoy anybody though.
I do have to say in the short time I've been a member in here I've never been made more welcome to any forum or group before. I can say with pride and if I'm allowed I'm a member of the Who Dat nation. |

New Orleans Saints | Key Moments in Saints History
Russell B. Long - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia In 1966, at the request of former National Football League Commissioner Pete Rozelle, Long and Congressman Hale Boggs used their influence to pass legislation that allowed for the merger of the American Football League and the National Football League (NFL). Without the legislation, the merger would have been prohibited by anti-trust laws governing monopolies. In exchange for ensuring the passage of the legislation, Long and Boggs requested that Rozelle award the next NFL expansion franchise to New Orleans.[5] Rozelle complied, and Long and Boggs joined Rozelle in announcing that New Orleans had obtained the New Orleans Saints on November 1, 1966.[6] New Orleans Saints Team Encyclopedia - Pro-Football-Reference.com |
