Terron Armstead will likely be the Saints left tackle this season
With Jermon Bushrod now in Chicago, the Saints need a new starting left tackle for this season. It sounds like the front-runner to take over is rookie Terron Armstead.
A MAGNET WITH NO NAME! That’s how Coach Sean Payton described the team’s depth chart at left tackle during the offseason. With the departure of free agent left tackle Jermon Bushrod to the Chicago Bears, the Saints must find a replacement from among three candidates: the oft-injured Charles Brown, third-round draft pick Terron Armstead and veteran Jason Smith, a perceived bust after being selected by the St. Louis Rams with the second overall pick in the 2009 draft. My bet is on Armstead before all is said and done. I can’t imagine Smith getting the job and Armstead was pretty impressive for the Saints during their spring workouts. Terron Armstead will likely be the Saints left tackle this season |

A little premature, but probably, yes.

Game 1, no way.
Game 9, maybe. Its most likelythat he'll play back-up for a season. He's awfully raw. This isn't like Evans playing guard from day one, or Nicks starting by week 8. We'll bring him along slowly like we did with Stinchcomb, Strief, Bushrod and Brown. |

Well it certainly wouldn't shock me. Especially since Drew put in some good words for him, just like he did with Tyler Lorenzen 2 seasons ago. Oh wait...

It could be sloppy at first, but I think he'll develop pretty quickly. |

So unless he develops his game at blazing speed he'll need some time. Of course, judging from what we saw at the combine blazing speed is no problem for Terron. |

His athleticism, which you brought up, is what I think gives him a chance to survive the early learning curve until his overall game catches up. Brown and Smith have been around long enough to know better, and just haven't shown near enough, so I'm not catching a good vibe with those two. Ideally, I'd rather he had the chance to sit and learn, but I have confidence that he'll do ok this year, and be a beast down the road. |
If I had a nickel for every time I heard that, the NFL would fine and suspend me.

I think it's still Brown's job to lose, but with the injury history he has - Armstead will probably end up starting at LT at some point in the season even if he starts off the season behind Brown.
