Mickey Loomis: Saints have talked about signing Jimmy Graham to an extension
 

After signing quarterback Drew Brees to a contract extension last year, the Saints now need to take care of tight end Jimmy Graham who’s in the final year of his current contract.

Saints general manager Mickey Loomis told the media that they have talked about signing Graham to an extension.

“He knows we want to have him here long-term, for his entire career, and I think he wants to be here for that same period,” Loomis said, via NOLA.com. “These things have a way of working out for us.”

Loomis acknowledged they have a lot of players that need new deals.

“We’ve got some guys that are obviously in the last year of their contract, important players to our team,” Loomis said. “We’ve talked about it, and some of those may or may not happen. We’re just going to see how this thing unfolds over the next couple of weeks.

“And it’s possible (getting a deal done), is really what I’m getting to.”

I’m sure Graham will be the Saints number one priority Let’s face it he’s their best offensive player, aside from Brees.

Jimmy's gonna get $9-10 million/year... But I would imagine that for it to happen before the season starts then 2 or 3 pricey veterans might be surprise cuts. Otherwise his resigning will go down to the very last minute next offseason the way it normally does with us.

I'd like to see his blocking improve. If he's gonna be the highest paid TE in the league then I'd like to see a more well-rounded game from him because he offers next to nothing in run blocking. Don't get me wrong, I love him like everyone else... Just saying that when we pay him top dollar I don't want there to be any doubt that he's the best in the league!

Yep, if he wants to be viewed as a 26 year old Tony Gonzalez, he's gonna have to step it up on several fronts.

Right now he's just a bigass WR, albeit a very good one.
