DE Kenyon Coleman says 'Rob Ryan and I have such a great relationship is because he knows what is going to get out of me'
 

The New Orleans Saints brought in Rob Ryan to fix their defense, which gave up a league-worst 147.6 yards per game rushing last season.

Ryan then brought in DE Kenyon Coleman, who will play on early downs as a situational run stuffer from the Dallas Cowboys.

He knows what he's getting in the defensive end, and in order to build the pass rush, first a defense has to stop the run.

"The thing about this game is you are going to be who you are and I feel like the reason why Rob Ryan and I have such a great relationship is because he knows what is going to get out of me, he knows the sense of consistency. For me I don’t try and strive and reach, I just (try to) be the person I know that I am. Obviously Rob has got accustomed to that and obviously that is why I am here," via NewOrleansSaints.com.

On if it makes a difference playing a 4-3 or 3-4:

"I got drafted as a 4-3 defensive end and obviously I know where I fit as far as I’m concerned. Whether it’s a 4-3 or 3-4, I have a skillset that I do and I just stay with that."

"Obviously I feel like there are a lot of ways to skin a cat, that’s the way I look at it. I don’t really switch up my technique, somebody else may do it, but for me I’m going to be the same guy whether I am in a three technique, whether I am in a nine or in a one. I play with power and that’s kind of my thing."

Probably more important than most of us have thought. Technically we were worse stopping the run than rushing the passer.

The addition of Coleman and Jenkins, combined with Hicks and Jordan with another year under their belt, we should be much improved.

Makes sense. How can you effect plays behind the line of scrimmage is you can't stop them at the line of scrimmage.

Defenses that face 2nd and short all season long do tend to give up a lot of big plays.

I remember us giving up way too many big plays facing third or fourth and real long too. Even though Butler and Lewis got most of the press, I'm thinking Kenyon's going to be a real nice addition to our lineup as well.
