UDFA CB Rod Sweeting Opening Eyes Early
Much of the attention during New Orleans Saints training camp at cornerback has been on Keenan Lewis, Jabari Greer and Patrick Robinson.
Even when it comes to undrafted free agents the attention has been focused on linebackers like Chase Thomas and Eric Martin. That means Georgia Tech product Rod Sweeting has been flying completely under the radar in a stealth aircraft of non-human origin. Until now. Sweeting is gaining the attention of any and all comers thanks to his stellar play during training camp. Mike Triplett of NOLA.com has the details: The undrafted rookie cornerback from Georgia Tech had another impressive showing Wednesday and continues to make a case for himself as a sleeper candidate for a roster spot. Sweeting’s best play Wednesday came in team drills when he ran stride for stride down the field with speedy receiver Joe Morgan and knocked away the pass from quarterback Luke McCown. The best part? Coordinator Rob Ryan goes on to praise Sweeting as well for exploding on to the scene once the pads came out. Sweeting by no means has a sound chance at the roster. He has the big three aforementioned names in front of him and will have to jockey for position with guys like Corey White, Chris Carr, Korey Lindsey and more. It’s early but Sweeting is making a name for himself in the right way. Any time an undrafted player can grab the attention of his coordinator this early it’s a good sign of things to come. It was a bit of a shock Sweeting went undrafted in the first place, and now he’s showing why teams should not have passed on him. http://whodatdish.com/2013/08/01/sai...m_medium=email |

Intriguing! At 6-0 and 187lbs he has pretty decent size for a corner.

Re: UDFA CB Rod Sweeting Opening Eyes Early
Roughly about the same size as Tracy Porter was, except sweeting is slightly taller
All i've been hearing is good things about him and I've seen the play they were talking about with him vs morgan and he makes a great play on the ball |

Doesn't matter where you go to school. If you can play, they will find you. Good luck to you Rod.

Re: UDFA CB Rod Sweeting Opening Eyes Early
Stellar in comparison to the way our CBs played last year, or stellar compared to an average NFL CB?

Re: UDFA CB Rod Sweeting Opening Eyes Early
Rod Sweeting mentioned you as a guy he kind of looks up to. What have you seen out of the rookie?
“A guy (who’s) like me, long arms who can run, make plays on the ball, very physical…I’m looking forward to big things for him this preseason. Like I tell him all the time, come out and give 100 percent as he’s been doing. I’m pretty sure he’ll be a special (player). “ -Keenan Lewis New Orleans Saints player transcripts from Day 8 of training camp |
Re: UDFA CB Rod Sweeting Opening Eyes Early
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that we will have the best pass defense in our division this year. I don't give a crap if Tampa has Revis, we will have the higher ranked pass defense in the NFC South. Mark it down.

Re: UDFA CB Rod Sweeting Opening Eyes Early
under the radar? ok i can go with it. i saw him go from undrafted in pre draft rankings as high as a 5th. to go undrafted was a right up there with Thomas.
i like the kid and i believe he can make a living as a nickle and dime guy with special teams impact. would it surprise me to to see him get into the top two ranking? yeah a bit surprised. the kid is freaking smart to boot. seriously smart gang. Given the scholarly requirements at Georgia Tech, it’s no wonder Sweeting pulled down his high school team’s award for academic and athletic prowess, as well as numerous all-Georgia accolades and four-star recruiting grades. His intelligence will again play a part in his evaluation when NFL scouts decide which defenders to select in the 2013 draft. Rod Sweeting Draft Profile he needs to improve more than one thing in his game but if your looking for a player that understands what the coaches are asking him to do. he is your guy |
