Steve Breaston
Apologies if this has already been posted, but according to Adam Shefter, the Saints have signed Steve Breaston to a one-year deal.
Saints sign Steve Breaston to one year deal. @ TigerDroppings.com Saints signed WR Steve Breaston to a one-year contract. Breaston, 30, appeared in just 10 games with Kansas City last year, making four starts and catching seven balls for 74 yards. Coach Sean Payton's Saints offense has often featured two situational streak-route runners when it's been at its best, a la Robert Meachem and Devery Henderson. They draw over-the-top coverage and free up the underneath. The Saints have Joseph Morgan, but lack an established second. Breaston will battle Kenny Stills and Saalim Hakim. Re: Steve Breaston
So steve breaston, laurent robinson and brent leonard, are colston and morgan injured badly?

Re: Steve Breaston
We knew that Laurent Robinson was set to work out for the Saints on Monday, but he wasn’t the only veteran wide receiver showing off his talents at Saints camp.
Ben Volin of the Boston Globe reports that Steve Breaston was also working out for New Orleans and that his workout was impressive enough for him to earn a contract with the team. Presumably that leaves Robinson to hunt for work elsewhere, a task that has been fruitless through visits with several teams since camp opened. Breaston was cut by the Chiefs at the start of the offseason after catching just seven passes in 2012, the second year of a five-year, $23 million deal that he signed before the 2011 season. He’s visited with a few different teams, but questions about the condition of his knee may have contributed to his continued unemployment. The Saints saw wide receiver Joe Morgan get hurt during this weekend’s scrimmage, which is problematic since Morgan has been installed in Marques Colston’s usual spot in the starting lineup on the team’s initial depth chart. Colston is on the PUP list because of a foot injury, so there’s a need for bodies at the position and Breaston could wind up carving out more of a role than that if he can regain the form that saw him average 60 catches a year from 2008 through 2011. Re: Steve Breaston
I hope he gets cut
Simply because it means that the rookies look decent and the vets are injury free |
Re: Steve Breaston
Im starting to worry about Colston.

Re: Steve Breaston
Colston still has plenty of gas in the tank but the injuries must be starting to take there toll.Im hopeful with Toon and Stills being the long term 1-2 WR pairing.A few years away yet though. Colston may not have a probowl but he has another superbowl in him yet.

Re: Steve Breaston
I'm not worried about Colston, I just don't like the signing because it means less time for Stills and Toon to work with Drew

Re: Steve Breaston
I've been saying since the offseason that the Saints needed another veteran receiver for depth behind Colston and Moore. There were way too many question marks with the rest of the receiving corps. At least with Breaston, you kinda get an idea of what you're getting. Last year's numbers aside, the guy is a pretty solid #3 receiver to have on the roster.

I knew we shouldn't have cut Devery...

Re: Steve Breaston
It's always smart to get a short list of players to familiarize themselves with our system in case we're short a player or two throughout the season. I don't expect Breaston to make the team... but I'm glad we're bringing him in.

Re: Steve Breaston
It's probably no different than when we brought in Greg Camarillo last year. Just a little insurance.

Re: Steve Breaston
All I read is Steve Beaston. Bring on the beast.

Re: Steve Breaston
if breaston can have a season like he had at arizona to get the big bucks in k.c. i'll take him only if hes top form.

Re: Steve Breaston
Damn I wish Devery wasn't signed

Re: Steve Breaston
I'm not crazy about this signing at all. If you can't get more than 7 catches for the Chiefs who has no one to throw the ball to then there probably is a reason for why you are not with a team.

We are gonna need all the weapons we can get!!! Im wit it!!!! |

Furthermore Matt Castle was the QB and while he had 277 Passing attempts, Jamal Charles had 285 rushing attempts. The Chiefs were a run heavy team. TOTAL Rush attempt 500 TOTAL passing attempts 475 Rushing TD 9 Receiving TD 8 The Saints Running game had 10 TDs in 2012 LOL>.. His 7 rec is more of a testament to the Chiefs running game than his receiving skills. He also only played in 10 games, his career stats paint a little different picture than just looking at 2012. Re: Steve Breaston
KC could not pass to save there life. thus a new QB. end of story
he is a solid fit for the offense. he has played in a complex system for years and produced as a role player. money was the only reason the cards let him go. since then they have been trying to draft a replacement. plays outside, slot and he can run. he might be a bit slower than Henderson but he is more of a well rounded WR than Henderson ever was I will take him over Robinson any day. he stays healthy Nice gamble |
Re: Steve Breaston
steve b. lit the league on fire taking advantage of the double coverage they
gave larry fizt. theres no doubt he could do it here when they cover colston up is but and in his ears. breastons been in that position before and could regain the game he but together then. |
