New Orleans Saints rank 4th in NFL fan support, loyalty, according to report

We've always known the Who Dat Nation ranks among the most loyal and passionate fan bases in sports. Now there's analytical evidence to prove it.

Saints' fans rank among the most loyal and supportive in the NFL, according to a new report by sports marketing professors at Emory University.

The Saints ranked fourth in the NFL behind the Dallas Cowboys, New England Patriots and New York Jets, making them the most ardent fans among all small-market NFL clubs. The only other small-market teams in the Top 10 were Indianapolis (No. 6) and Tennessee (No. 10).

Professors Mike Lewis & Manish Tripathi measured team box office revenues relative to team on-field success, market population, stadium capacity, median income and other factors to rank the teams.

"The Saints are a more recent success story, but the team's new success combined with limited professional sports options in New Orleans has created a very strong fan base," the report said.

Saints fans will also love the report's ranking of their archrivals, the Atlanta Falcons: No. 31. Only the Oakland Raiders prevented the Falcons from a last-place overall ranking in the NFL.
