Has anyone noticed?
 

That for 3 straight preseason games, Kenny Vaccaro has been at the top of list for tackles, the only person that had more was Humber in the raiders game

Vaccaro came off the field with a bloodied face and was laughing after he layed out the texans RB, i didnt know what to think when we drafted but I think we made the right decision. Can't wait to see him in the regular season

Lofton and humber will be good in the middle, both tackling machines and I like our D line

Only thing i'm a little concerned with is our secondary, Jenkins missed a shed load of tackles, P - Rob actually played well but andre schooled Keenan lewis

It was just a shame that SP couldnt trust the O line and drew got pulled after 2 drives but it wss probably for the best

Im not concerned at all about the secondary, but I am concerned about the injuries to the OLB's. Vaccaro is gonna be a star, I loved the bloody nose look.

Lewis will get it together, I have faith. Patrick Robinson had a nice pass break up and I don't remember him giving up anything big last night, perhaps he'll finally step it up this year?

Unfortunately, it's rarely a positive thing when a safety leads the team in tackles.

Only thing I would change would be Humber and Lofton, I agree they are tackling machines but Lofton is showing repeatedly he cannot play the pass, Humber didn't play the pass well yesterday but I do feel he has the ability.
I would go with Hawthorn and Humber. We still need a beast for the middle.

I think too much is being made about that crossing pattern. Humber and Lewis both stayed on one receiver while the other broke free uncovered. We really don't know who was supposed to cover who. It looked more like coverage confusion than a lack of coverage skills by Humber.

You can't really tell much about the defense other than some individual efforts. Some of which have been outstanding, i.e. KV. Ryan is playing it for evals and we can only hope its decent come opening day.

Vaccaro will be the best #1 pick we had since a long time.
For way too long our defense has been marginal to awful. In that time we failed at the draft picking offensive stars when we truly needed balance on defense.

After last season, I'm pretty happy with what the D did yesterday. Yes,we do have some things to work on, but holding that offense to 13 pts. In the first half w/o all of our starters in was reason enough to be optimistic. And how about Mr. Glen Foster!! wow! Excellent pick up for the Saints!

Still worried about the secondary. We had avoided the big play the last 2 games but we gave up to many this game.

May be irrelevant since we'd double cover and/or bracket someone like AJ during a real game

I'd have to go back and look... I was thinking Schaub was possibly throwing to AJ or OD which ever wasn't double covered... Then I remembered that for most of AJs catches he was zero covered. :/

However, we do play some other noteworthy receivers.

Week 1 - Roddy White, Julio Jones
Week 2 - Vincent Jackson
Week 3 - Larry Fitzgerald
Week 4 - Mike Wallace
Week 5 - Brandon Marshall
Week 8 - Steve Johnson
Week 10 - Dez Bryant
Week 12 - Roddy and Julio again
Week 14 and Week 16 - Steve Smith
Week 17 - Vincent Jackson again

Remember 2 years ago when we put 2 players on the Lions' Calvin Johnson? It looked like 2 guys on a punt team gunner.

Darrell Revis in his prime would have been abused by a healthy Anthony Johnson in single man coverage without help.

I'm not worried about that at all.

Noteworthy is one thing... Nearly Unstoppable due to match up is another..

The only combination that worries me is Jones and White when you add Gonzo... We have however proven we can even stop that with the worst defense in history.

I'm mostly worried about that area between the LB's and the secondary. Our LB's haven't proven they can cover deep enough and if we bring our safeties up we'll get burned deep or burned on those intermediate routes just past them, especially if we don't get a pass rush.

Thats my major matchup concern right now, especially with Atlanta. You know they're licking their chops at Lofton in coverage.
