Keys to beating Atlanta week 1

Running the ball
Screen passes
Throwing more at Ben Watson and Lance Moore and less at Colston, falcons have him figured out.
Never throw at Witherspoon
Be on the lookout for seeing Julio Jones on defense(he was playoff game against Seattle).
Cover Roddy and Jones in falcons territory
Cover Jones in redzone and hope Ryan doesnt look at Gonzo or Roddy.
If we get off to another 7-10 point lead late lets not stall on offense , get conservative and play prevent defense. We have had a lousy habit of doing this stuff.

Payton/Brees/Thomas/Sproles are masters of the screens

We have too many weapons, with the Falcons secondary; somebody will always be open

Not worried...

With their O-Line trouble, hopefully Jordan/Hicks/Foster/whoever will get consistent pressure

I live in Atlanta ( I know ) and on their local sports radio show , they seem worried about their O Line ... Titans had 5 Sacks on Matt Ryan ... Without their Starting Linebackers in. I Say we Gear Jordan and Galette Up and Bring the Pressure Early and Often.

Something else to remember; they'll be seeing a different defensive scheme then they are used to. And you know Sean has a few offensive wrinkles he has yet to unveil

Scoring at least one more point than Atlanta will help as well!

They had a 13-3 year with a vanilla schedule , replacement refs and the junior varsity Saints ... I find they won't be half as good as everyone is making them out to be

I don't want to put too much stock in those sacks because Roddy wasnt on the field. I've been saying a while Ryan is carried by his receivers. If Roddy was there I really don't know how that would have turned out. All three have not been playing at the same time all preseason.

Another outcome I hope is jets beating bucs. If bucs win that, then they are gonna be a big problem given how their home games look.

As of now the two games I'm concerned about are Atlanta and Miami.

Of the 5 O-Linemen, 3 of those are new starters for them. No way it wasn't the O-Line

Rosy would have pushed off, dropped the pass, then throw a tantrum demanding a PI call.

I just had a brain fart... If throwin a hulk after a sack gets you a penalty.... Shouldn't jumping up and down like a whiny b1tch after a dropped ball get Rody a penalty also?

With a line that porous we are going to see a lot of Steve Jackson.

I expect a lot of the game for the Falcons is going to come down to Julio or Roddy getting tackled at the marker, and then 3rd and 1, or 4th and 1, and can we stuff them on that. Based on what I've seen so far, I think we can.

Re: Keys to beating Atlanta week 1

Stuff their run early, establish our run early. Beat the mess out of Ryan when he drops back, and no tater-headed special teams moments. It also depends on how many phantom PI's White and Jones manage to whine enough about then get it called (since that seems to be their only strategy in their passing O). STOP GONZALEZ. We negate Jewel-O, Snoddy, and Gonzalez by being in Ryan's face often. If the d-line can pressure by themselves, that'll make it tough for Ol' Fragile Matty overall as his feelings will get hurt and he will quit.

Got me to thinking... How is Parys Haralson in coverage?

Barry from MS 08-26-2013 09:34 PM

Re: Keys to beating Atlanta week 1

Better than W. Smith would have been; he simply was out of place out in space (that happens when you convert a lifelong 4-3 DE to 3-4 OLB). Haven't paid much attention to Haralson before now, to be honest. Hopefully he understands the system quickly, but he's a real pro and should be more than able. Big dude (255lbs), so don't know how much agility he has in coverage. ATL will test him, I'm sure. I've read quite a bit about how consistent he is against the run, though.

1. Stop Stephen Jackson.
2. Don't give up too many big plays.
3. Hold them to field goals in the red zone.
4. Don't throw 5 picks.
5. Don't throw 5 picks.

Show up.

Lately that's all that has been necessary.

Even with 5 picks, the outcome was still in doubt.

2-14 still a winning season if the 2 wins are against the ATL.

I don't want us anywhere near their "junk", but otherwise I agree. :puke:

Waiting for Jackson to start running his mouth around week 3 when he's averaging 2 yards a carry and getting buried in the backfield.

Re: Keys to beating Atlanta week 1

( Falcons report ) Of the six sacks allowed Saturday, starting right tackle Lamar Holmes was directly responsible for half. He’s not the only issue on Atlanta’s offensive line, but he might be the biggest area of concern.

Hmm throw Foster on that side and Send Heralson every down on that edge lmao !

Lets hope he finds a way to stay a starter.... Atlanta doesn't need to go filling that gap too soon.

Tackle somebody and make sure Smith stays on as coach.

Stopping him and making them one deminsional is the key. Of course, they are probably saying the same thing about stopping the Saints.

Taking the Falcon fanbase out of the game by having a lead going into the fourth quarter and prompting an early/mass exodus back to the ATL (as is their habit),.

Atlanta will be the first test of a brand new defense which has been decimated by injuries. It won't be easy...........we've just got to score more points.
