In its Tuesday news release, the NFL included strength of schedule for all 32 teams and New Orleans comes in tied at No. 2, its opponents carrying a .539 winning percentage in 2012.
In other words, it’s a good thing Sean Payton, king of the little things that win games, is back in the fold for the Saints.
New Orleans’ opponents went 137-117-2 a season ago (the two ties being the 49ers and Rams 24-24 November game). Seven of New Orleans’ 16 games this season are against opponents who were .500 or better in 2012 and five games will played against teams that made the playoffs (twice against Atlanta, Seattle, San Francisco, New England).
Only Carolina has a tougher schedule percentage-wise.

Yeah but this is based off Tuesday's news release directly from the NFL of the strength of schedules so it probably carries a lot more weight.

Strength of schedule is a severly flawed stat. One or two teams on the extreme can skew the SOS significantly.

Not much difference in a 6 win team and a 2 win team. But 4 wins can skews SOS

We play 5 or 6 really good teams, and so does everyone else.

Problem is we have a knack for losing a few we should win going away too.

We should be favored in every game but @New England, @Atlanta, @Seattle and maybe @Chicago.

Using last years rankings makes this a fairly useless statistic. I juries, new players, losing players, etc. changes all of that.

That's a lot of data to crunch ... I pay a lot of attention to the +.500/-.500 stat in regards to last season standings, current standings, how-a-team-performs-against, et... when picking games. It's not the only factor, but it carries a lot of weight.

... 11 wins seemed like a good number, :mrgreen:.

I would say they are all worthless but that being said the NFLs rankings only take into account 2012... while the one I posted takes into account 2013 power rankings.. Power rankings are as worthless as strength of schedule but excluding anything from 2013 completely and just going off of how teams finished in 2012 is a whole lot weaker data set for the 2013 season.

A quote from right above your chart : "Of course, we realize this is based on last year's records and things change. ".. The draft and personnel movement in the off season effect teams in 2013 more than the previous years records.. Hence the power rankings take into effect those things.

Lower on the page he does show the same chart you have from the NFL with the same rankings.

Being from the NFL really does not add any validity for me.

Yep,
Was their 2012 finish skewed by other factors?
Did they have a tough schedule in 2012?
Did they have a patsy schedule in 2012?
Were some teams missing key players?
Did some teams have excessive injuries?
Were they extremely close in their losses?
Did they address key areas in the offseason?
Did they have a lot of roster turnover?

Did they have a nuclear bomb like distraction during the season?
Was their head coach friggin suspended for the entire year?
Was their interim coach suspended for 1/2 a season?
Was their GM suspended for 1/2 a season?

Strength of Schedule is meaningless compared to the above questions.
