Drew Brees recalls last year's Falcons' contest in Georgia Dome
 

METAIRIE -- Drew Brees recalled his five-interception performance last season at Atlanta and with a quick whim, offered a response which led to chuckles during his Wednesday afternoon media session.

"It was funny, because I watch the film and I could have very easily thrown five touchdowns instead of five picks," Brees said. "And everybody might laugh, but I can turn that film on and say, 'here, here, here, here, here.' "

It's a Coulda, Shoulda, Woulda moment Jim Mora would have been proud of.

Later in the locker room, right tackle Zach Strief thought back to the Saints' last meeting with Atlanta, the NFC South rival they face Sunday at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome to open the 2013 season.

You could argue Brees had his worst performance as a pro, Strief said, or you could look closer and say he was under duress for 80 percent of his throws.

"Did he have his worst performance, or did we?" Strief said of the offensive line.

I rather he not recall that bull****. That was one of the few games the defense actually showed up in. Drew has interception problems; it just is what it is. He MUST cut down on them if we're going back to the championship.

He never throws them in the playoffs though. He becomes Super Drew in the post season. But regular season Drew will come out some days and just throws picks.

Everybody would always act like I'm blasphemous for pointing it out. I was so irate after this game man...I already wanted us to take Russell Wilson last year and we didn't...but that's another story.

I agree on all points. Drew will not win the MVP unless he cuts down on the Ints. Russell Wilson would have been a great draft choice.

Oh man.

I know it's last year's Atlanta defense he is talking about, last year's game, and I know he knows it too -- but I think Brees is telling us that he sees something in the film. The thing is, folks, he's not necessarily talking about the same five plays as the five interceptions. I think he's talking about he sees something ELSE. When he says he can show you the film, he could have had touchdowns, here, here, here, here, and here.... He doesn't mean the same 5 plays with the 5 picks! He means he sees something ELSE he could have done or thrown to, most likely in five other totally different plays, other weaknesses and faults in the Atlanta defense, things that he missed last time but he's got it now.

See what I mean?

Still, this is what we know: games like last season's 23-13 loss to Atlanta - which reached the NFC Championship game before losing to San Francisco - kept the Saints out of the playoffs, kept Brees off the Pro Bowl roster.

Guess who drove to the liquor store....this guy....definitely a game id like not to repeat. This season has alot of similarities to the champioship season. 3 and 1 preseason with a game opener against the Falcons....hmmmmm, lets hope we can repeat our success.

It was not bloody funny, whichever definition of funny is chosen. But Brees is a smart guy. Brees will win out overall if the FailClowns try the same plays.
