Lofton cover skills again
I hate to keep messing with Lofton but again this guy can't cover once the Saints defense get near the end zone. Why in the hell would leave Tony Gonzales when there in the red zone. I know Matt Ryan was trying to run but we had a player running to stop him.

Re: Lofton cover skills again
I thought he did surprisingly well, with 3 and 4 safeties on the field it helped to protect him in coverage...

Re: Lofton cover skills again
I agree Mitch but he's still the one keep getting beat by Tony and it pisses me off.

Maybe that's what he was supposed to do spy Ryan... |
Re: Lofton cover skills again
He had a bad rap coming from Atlanta that he could not cover anyone.

Lofton's strong suit isn't his coverage skills.

Re: Lofton cover skills again
F-it! Then let Humber play!
Keep throwing free agents and draft picks till something sticks; if Lofton would be better at the WILL, then move him and let the better player on the roster handle it... Humber looks like he's matured into the roll, and he's definitely showed some wheels as well as some explosiveness in his tackling... |

In the last 90's, I screamed my brains out that we should have open try outs for anyone - free agent or UPS man - who could play solid linebacker. Always a position we do not nail, except for the Dome patrol era. Problem is until this season, we haven't "drafted" defense into our team. We're always scabbing it through free agency. |
Re: Lofton cover skills again
Lots of people cant cover Tony

Humber would do well, Tez could probably be an All-Pro.

Re: Lofton cover skills again
This is about Lofton isn't it.... He is not suited to play where he currently is, but how can you move him to where he is designed to be if the guy who your hamstrung yourself to ( vilma) is never healthy!!!!

Re: Lofton cover skills again
Lofton is a good player. Yes, he is not perfect and he struggles in pass coverage sometimes. That does not mean you just throw him away. He has too many other excellent qualities. Ya'll act like we are talking about Orlando Ruff or Mark Simoneau or something. Lofton is miles better than any of those guys.
And are we really griping because one of our better defensive players got beat by Tony Gonzales? Guess what, a lot of good players have been beat by Gonzales. Hell, Jimmy Graham had 100 something yards and 2 TDs against the 49ers in that playoff game. Were their fans whining about how awful Patrick Willis or Navarro Bowman were? |

Re: Lofton cover skills again
Lets bench brees because he can't run the ball when the pocket breaks down whilst we are at it

Re: Lofton cover skills again
If we keep getting pressure on the qb like we did this game and actually get the holding calls lofton won't look so bad lol
|
Re: Lofton cover skills again
He's a linebacker. They don't particularly specialize in one on one coverage. They usually get a small little zone to handle. You can't zone the whole field by yourself.

Re: Lofton cover skills again
Don't know if anybody noticed but I saw Herring out there a few times on nickel downs. He had one pass breakup and otherwise didn't raise the mention of the announcers, which says to me he must have been doing a pretty good job.
Plus they were only 3/11 on third down.... |

Re: Lofton cover skills again
I'm sorry to start a argument about Lofton I think he's a hell of a player. I just don't understand why he's in the game between the 5 yard line and the goal line.

Re: Lofton cover skills again
Lofton may not be a 3 down back. But he is a fantastic 2 down back.
