Bad news for #Saints: Starting NT Brodrick Bunkley is expected to be out several weeks with a calf injury, per source. Not season-ending

I guess the team will just have to lean on the rookie to see what he can do.

He did well last week IMO

At least we'll get him back eventually. Next man up.

Several weeks with only one DT?

I'm guessing we'll have to sign someone soo.

Well we have Jenkins and Hicks has practiced at NT during the off season as well. We should be fine in the short term. I'm glad we kept Johnson.

I really like Hicks at DE, but you're right, I guess if we have to we can move him to DT.

Indoors and cold weather? Probably

I just hope 'several weeks' is all it is. Bunkley is a very valuable piece to our scheme.

Actually I consider this good news. I was expecting it to be an Achilles tendon injury.

In other news, Walker posted some pictures of his leg all wrapped up on facebook, but they are gone now. I'm assuming the Saints management had him take them down.

John Jenkins will be great. Save the money...I think Von Miller is about to be available soon...

Surprised nobody has opened up the debate about taking Meachem on the roster instead of a D player. Just this reason :-/

Re: Bunkley out several weeks - Calf injury

Hicks can spell Jenkins at the nose, Galette can move down to the line especially since it looks like Martez is finally ready to go.

Starting to look pretty thin but hopefully it's only a week or two. Otherwise maybe look up Jay Richardson.

Perhaps Meachem has one of those deals with the staff where they can cut him and bring him back as needed throughout the season, like they did with Camarillo.

I stilk think preseason and week 1 showed that we don't need meachem, stills and toon will be great in our offense

Re: Bunkley out several weeks - Calf injury

Sign a stop-gap: Hampton, Pouha, C. Williams. All old, but DT is rotational

Re: Bunkley out several weeks - Calf injury

How's Hicks going to play NT and DE - Foster is out, Walker is out, Bunkley is out...

Merde! Merde, Merde, Merde!

Your 2013 Week 2 New Orleans Saints for the Front Line are...

DE3 Akiem Hicks
NT John Jenkins
DE5 Cam Jordan, Tom Johnson

Exactly!

Also Shaun Cody could be an interesting alternative if he is 100% after his injuries and surgeries from last season. He played pretty well for the Texans and could be available for pennies.

Hampton or Kemoeatu could also be solid additions, although Hampton at 36 has definitely already seen his best days in football and Kemoeatu on his own right has been on the decline for some years now. Still, both could have a positive effect on the development of Jenkins as they're veterans with great depth of knowledge about how to play the nose position successfully.

Heard through the grapevine that Meachem has been taking snaps at nose tackle.

Merde! Merde, Merde, Merde!

Foster practiced today, although limited. Tom Johnson can play DE & DT, but is a bit undersized for that NT spot.

Re: Bunkley out several weeks - Calf injury

I don't like this one bit! We can't be doing a patchwork job on the D-Line and expect improvement to continue with the new defense. I know Big John will do fine as a starter but I agree with Jeanpierre that we should bring back Aaitui as a backup instead of shuffling Hicks around.

The downside of that is we have to cut somebody.

Did Tez practice? As long as foster is back we'll be OK if not Rob Ryan can go out there and show those guys a thing or two.

I think Meachum is the obvious choice. It's gotta suck to be the yo-yo on the roster but we're heavy at wide receiver. And Stills is playing well as the deep threat.

No, not yet, at least; however, injuries on the defensive line may necessitate it...

We screwed the pooch on Meachum signing him before the first game, now his salary is guaranteed.

Stills and toon should play before meachem, if anything put meachem on kick returns seen as he did it in 09 and did quite well

We also need D lineman before meachem though
