Dolphins Must Stop Saints’ Graham
In next Monday’s battle of undefeated teams on ESPN, I think we can expect to see a high intensity, high scoring football game. Both Miami and New Orleans have figured out their offenses and have put up points in their past couple games. While attacking both quarterbacks and making plays in the secondary will be crucial, this game will undoubtedly come down to who can score more when it matters most. While both offenses are potent and possess both speed and talent, the one advantage the Saints have over Miami is at the tight end position, where they boast one of the league’s best in Jimmy Graham.
If you know Dolphins’ football, then you know how much the defense strugglse against good tight ends. Take for example last year’s duo of Aaron Hernandez and Rob Gronkowski, who shredded Miami’s secondary on two separate occasions. Granted, Miami’s secondary and defense as a whole is much improved, but they still have their bad moments against tight ends, and Graham is scary good. Through just 3 games this season, Graham already has 23 receptions for 358 yards and 4 TD’s. The Dolphins as a team have 4 total TD receptions thus far. You get the point. Graham is a beast and is easily Drew Brees’ favorite target. Look for Miami to double team Graham at times and to constantly put pressure on Brees to prevent him from acquiring a rhythm. While Graham is a great player, he is the lone superstar receiver the Saints have (although Colston is pretty darn good too). Shutting down Graham will help Miami manage what is an extremely dangerous gold and black offense. If we can figure out how to slow down we won’t be able to completely stop them the big TE and Brees – completely stopping them is almost impossible, then Miami will find itself in another winnable game, and a chance at 4-0. Or not...

Re: Dolphins Must Stop Saints’ Graham
I'm thinking Meachem and Colston have big days...

"although Colston is pretty darn good too" ?
Thats nice of them. although Don Shula is pretty darn good too. This year is odd, where its similar to 2009. we lost to Dolphins in preseason then, went 3-0, then played unbeaten teams in a row, swept the falcons like we are going to again. |

Re: Dolphins Must Stop Saints’ Graham
If no one has stopped graham yet by putting a fast cover lb, a cover safety, or a really good cover corner on him, i highly doubt Miami will get it done. Hell, they don't even have their best rush lb, so pressure on drew will come by a lil harder.

Re: Dolphins Must Stop Saints’ Graham
I started laughing at " high scoring football game"... The Saints will score a lot but I guess they forgot about the 4th best Defense in yards and scoring in the NFL....
That's right we have the 4th best Defense in yards and points... can you guys believe that??? |
Re: Dolphins Must Stop Saints’ Graham
Still a lot of games left to play.. I dnt know if I rather the d we have now (low scoring low yards) or the 09 d (bend but don't brake more turnovers and turnovers converted into points)
We get healthy we could scare a lot of people |
Re: Dolphins Must Stop Saints’ Graham
This thread sounds exactly like the thread about the cardinals having to stop jimmy last week.
|
Re: Dolphins Must Stop Saints’ Graham
Grambeaux will get his, as will the rest of the team. Saints win!
|
Re: Dolphins Must Stop Saints’ Graham
If they double team Graham that just leaves someone else one on one, it would be nice to run the ball on them also!!

Re: Dolphins Must Stop Saints’ Graham
Sean Payton does that purposely ... Double graham meachem over the top , Sproles one on one against a slow lb , Colston the perfect route runner and stills running wide open ... For Drew not to embarrass their secondary they'd basically play prevent which I'm confident khiry would be licking his chops .... Hell even ingram would be happy to see an empty box ...
For them to say Graham's the only threat is funny because Drew hits 8 different guys every drive ... |
Re: Dolphins Must Stop Saints’ Graham
The Dolphins will stop global warming before they stop Graham.
|
Re: Dolphins Must Stop Saints’ Graham
Stop Graham?!?
Then Sproles on an untouchable wheel route, or PT behind a disciplined, energy zapping screen, maybe just a long surgical strike to either Toon or Meachem, better still have Stills demoralize by running past coverage, or perhaps just stick a dagger right in the heart of the defense with Colston... (sigh) So many weapons - only one football®... |
Re: Dolphins Must Stop Saints’ Graham
Which is why I get pissed when we punt =(

Re: Dolphins Must Stop Saints’ Graham
I'm not sure that even double teaming Graham right now is really going to do that much good in stopping him. He is playing so completely zonked, out of his FRICKING mind, off the charts. You double team him, he will just do the basketball move and swish his arms around and knock everybody away.
|
Re: Dolphins Must Stop Saints’ Graham
Match ups do not matter with Graham... He alone will either catch it or not catch it... There will not be any of that influence
|
Re: Dolphins Must Stop Saints’ Graham
There are some posters on the Dolphins message board who advocate putting Dion Jordan on Graham because, being 6'6 and athletic, he would match-up favorably on the Saints TE.
I hope they try it. Not a chance a rookie DE will be able to stay with Graham. Plus, if Wake and Soliai aren't able to play, it would would mean subtracting another D-lineman from their rush. Brees would have a field day. Dion Jordan vs. Jimmy Graham |
Re: Dolphins Must Stop Saints’ Graham
Going to put 240 up against 270? Best of luck.
They do not realize its not Jimmy's height but his power, strength , and speed that make him nearly unmatchable? But sure go ahead and put your DE on Jimmy so Brees has more time to hit Colston. Heads up also Wake is practicing.. I posted it in the thread about him. Hopefully they try something drastic so the rookie can blow coverages and leave more than just graham open. |
Re: Dolphins Must Stop Saints’ Graham
Read the entire thread.... I have yet to see us panic over any teams 1 threat ever.
|
Re: Dolphins Must Stop Saints’ Graham
Oh, it'll be a high scoring game alright.........we could easily lay down a forty burger on them.

However, no way in hell his cover skills are good enough to keep up with Graham. If they try that, Drew will have all day to wait for him to get open... |

When they get up in the air that's a lot of weight and strength differential. Jordan's only shot is being in position to play the ball, as great as Jimmy is he has t-Rex arms and doesn't go out and snatch TDs from the jaws of INTs, he lets it come into him. |
