ESPN's 'Sunday NFL Countdown' to feature Steve Gleason
Former New Orleans Saints standout Steve Gleason will be featured on ESPN's "Sunday NFL Countdown."
The feature includes a segment in which Gleason interviews Eddie Vedder, the lead singer of his favorite band, Pearl Jam. "Sunday NFL Countdown" airs at 9 a.m. CST on Sunday. The feature will be re-aired on ESPN's E:60 on Tuesday at 6 p.m. Here's how the network describes the piece: Steve Gleason and Pearl Jam: As Steve Gleason continues his battle with ALS, the former New Orleans Saints safety is offered an opportunity to spend time and interview the band that he says has provided the soundtrack for his life. In a revealing piece by E:60's Chris Connelly, Gleason discusses meeting lead singer Eddie Vedder and Pearl Jam, and the personal audio diary he has taped for his son. The feature is reported by Chris Connelly and produced by Mike O'Conner. Here's a link to ESPN's story and sneak preview of the Gleason feature: Steve Gleason: Soundtrack of My Life. Such a shame. A guy I work with also has ALS. Really sucks.

ESPN trying to clean up their "reporting" image?

Re: ESPN's 'Sunday NFL Countdown' to feature Steve Gleason
Waiting. Finally a tease.
Eyes dropped tears, heavy tears. I had to pull my t-shirt collar up to my eyes to wipe away... Feelings, deep. Steve asks Vedder about his Dad. My feelings... I am starting to get angry. Breast cancer sucks. Yeah, I own Breasts. I am aware of BC and I can be treated. My life can be saved... BC...you have a course of treatment. You know the path... I would rather have Breast Cancer than ALS, MS or Parkinson's. (no disrespect but I am allowed to feel this way...) Lets change the focus... Neuromuscular disorders. Causes. There ain't no cure so we need to find causation. Was ALS, which can not be predicated already part of Steve's life? Did football trigger a switch? Neuromuscular Disorders Of the different types of muscles in the human body, you have voluntary and involuntary ones. Voluntary muscles are those you can move by thinking about; your arms, legs, hands. Involuntary muscles include those that move without your control, like your heart. Then there are those that are both; your eyelids, which you can control, but also blink without thinking about it. |

Re: ESPN's 'Sunday NFL Countdown' to feature Steve Gleason
Damn it.
We need to find out how this happens. Reverse engineer ALS and grab the answers to why ALS. From this help Parkinson's and MS. |

Re: ESPN's 'Sunday NFL Countdown' to feature Steve Gleason
Jesus Christ. That was awesome. Freaking crying in my living room right now.
So interesting to think that Pearl Jam has done for Steve the same thing they've done for me over my life. Nice to see in our crummy world filled with crummy people some real good ones out there trying to help each other. |

Guys, we have good in the world. It doesn't get attention because it doesn't make good copy.
Henley has it right about Dirty Laundry. I am glad to know I am in a place (B & G) where men can admit strong emotion that doesn't include hate. When all is done, Steve embraced his role as a Saint (meaning working for the better of mankind) and brought this to the table when others may choose to hide. If his message can touch one man for even a second, he made a difference. |
