What doesnt kill us can only make us....
You don\'t think Venturi\'s read and react system is working well? LOL.
It\'s so sad that it is somewhat funny.
This defense ranked 18th last season. Did it really get worse, or were their stats padded b/c teams never had to do much more than run on us b/c a) we couldn\'t stop it and b) our offense couldn\'t score.
It\'s gotten worse. Last year we were giving up 140 per game on the ground. It\'s up a bit from that now, and that\'s only because Martz decided not to run Faulk in the Rams game. If his hardheaded behind had done what everyone else had, it would be closer to 180 a game easily.
It seems a slightly improved run defense and offense has hurt this team more than anything. Scoring lots of points seems to have made our opponents look to put points up early and often. The fact that we can stop the run when its obvious has probably hurt too. Now teams focus on our terrible secondary and soften us up with ease. Then, once the defense is firmly on its heels, they run it down our throats.
In the sunshiny offseason I said that the defense needed to stop the run and rush the passer to be successful. Do you see either of those? Opposing QBs often have 5-7 seconds to pick out receivers. No secondary can hold off that long.
I have a hard time believing that this D got worse over the offseason. I think it was this bad last year to begin with - the stats just didn\'t show it.
Agreed. But I think it\'s now scheme more than talent. So fire the schemers. Specifically Haslett and Venturi (McCarthy too BTW).

Super Bowl Championships: New Orleans Saints:1, Carolina:0, Atlanta Chokers: STILL ZERO
Only Atlanta choked in an unchokable situation... Life is definitely good.
