You can’t call Malcolm Jenkins a one-man wrecking crew, not with all the defensive help the New Orleans Saints’ safety has received this season. That’d be an insult to the teammates with whom he has joined to help hold opponents to eight touchdowns in New Orleans’ first five games.

But if you had to choose a defensive MVP for the Saints today, he’d be a good candidate.
Last season, Jenkins had one interception and didn’t register a sack or an interception. This year he already has been responsible for three turnovers – an interception and two forced fumbles recovered by teammates – and he has a sack to his credit, a huge one against Chicago on Sunday that led to a Saints fumble recovery and field goal.

Too, he administered the clean stick on Bears tight end Martellus Bennett that flipped Bennett head over heels and forced the tight end to the sideline for a few plays, to get his bearings.
Bennett returned to the game later. Jenkins never left and isn’t often likely to be on the sideline this season, given the way he has taken to defensive coordinator Rob Ryan’s defense.

“We’ve talked about turnovers for a long time around here,” said Jenkins, who has 21 tackles and two passes defensed this year. “It’s something we preach in practice. But it’s also about putting your players in position to create them and I think that’s where the scheme comes in.

“When it all comes together, you get turnovers and guys are taking advantage of the opportunities that have come. I’m not the only one forcing turnovers. (Chicago) was the only game where we’ve only gotten one and that’s pretty good. Obviously, a big improvement from where we were.”

nope he finally is getting a chance in his contract year to prove is worth. no learning curve left to speak of. 2 to 3 year is sociably acceptable by the NFL. everyone gets a spag pass for last year

a supporting cast that allows him to do JUST his job 85% of the time. no one does 100% its a team sport.

hmmm funny their really is not anyone new that has done it. Oh yeah the defense is doing what this defense has always done attack. Vacarro has his moments but he will need time to develope more. great out of the gate but leveling off. so a coach that relizes that greg williams taught these guys to be a pack of wolves on the field and they were good at it. So why not go with it. that or we admit that the saints need 3 safeties to do the job back there. nah i am not ready to go there just yet. lets see how this shakes out. so far so good. so much for the shhhh part in my previous post

now how in the heck do you hold on to him in 2014 if he and the defense keep gelling? i really think this will be his last year with the saints. Graham and cap issues will make it very hard to resign him. does mickey have anther wabbit in that cap hat of his for Jenkins?

Another Jenkins is playing well at NT. Big John is taking up blockers and pushing the pocket to keep QBs from stepping up in the pocket and give others chances to make plays. A lot of Ivory fans were upset when we traded him for a 4th rd pick. Loomis and company traded two 4s for a guy that would go in rd1 in a redraft IMHO. We knocked it out of the park in this year's draft.

The one thing that has been consistently missing from him until this season, making plays on the ball

He has been playing very well, would like to see him get a few more picks - especially like the one vs bucs when he read it all the way and undercut the route

I found his errors decreased with Kenny Vaccaro on the field...

Could he be playing Strong Safety with a Free Safety title?!?

It was never fair to judge him from 2012 just like it wasn't fair to anybody else on that team, and he was a solid player before that even if not quite worthy of his draft status.

I do like how he seems to be turning himself into a leader on the field. Defensive MVP is stretching it though.

I think Jenkins is playing better this year but I think having Vacarro back there with him has a lot to do with that.
