McAfee signs for third stint with Saints October 12, 2004 NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- The New Orleans Saints signed veteran Fred McAfee to his third stint with the team Tuesday. McAfee, who made the Pro Bowl in 2002 for his special teams contributions, also played in New Orleans from 1991-93 and 2000-2003. He had 15 tackles, nine solo, on special teams last season for the Saints in 14 games. McAfee also has played with the Arizona Cardinals (1994), the Pittsburgh Steelers (1994-98) and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1999). |

They had to let Mcafee go because they needed a special teams player that could fill in at CB since we had such little depth. With the addition of McKenzie (who will start over Thomas and not Ambrose) Harper became expendable as a CB, and Mcafee is hands down a better ST player.
