Fitzgerald a Saint ?

If he opted out due to the realization of the very limited time he has to make a serous run and the even more real reminder that he is not getting any younger , what could we work out to get him ? Would you like to see this happen ?

never can tell the players are greedy as hell. heck they turned down life time health coverage for more money. there is a I in team when it comes dealing a majority of the players.

Couldn't afford his monster contract. 10.25 million cap hit this year, goes up to $18 million next year.

Re: Fitzgerald a Saint ?

He's going to get cut or his salary will be renegotiated. Either way AZ will not pay $18 million for a receiver who touches the ball 6 times a game.

If he stays at AZ, then he knows he's at least 3 years away from the playoffs due to the personnel/draft structure of the whiners and hags. If he's serious about a ring, he's going to have to leave, and he's going to take a hit on salary. If you look at the teams structured to win in the next 3 years, there's no cap room for a hit this big. Not even and especially in NO.

I'd love to have him but resigning Graham is a much bigger priority.

Sign an aging future HoF'er Fitz or sign a blooming future HoF'er Graham.

Man, those kind of decisions sure are tough...

Colston is set to make 8+ Million next year. If we can cut him clean and free I'd take Larry

Keeping Colston costs us 8 million
Cutting Colston costs us 10 million

I'm thinking we keep him.

Cut Colston? Where's this madness coming from?

I was afraid of that, sounds like you're right. We better find a way to get that dude to take a paycut, because that is a little too high

He has been hurt quite a bit the last few years and hasn't produced much this year. He isn't getting any younger, and I love the guy to death.

Re: Fitzgerald a Saint ?

I'm tired of having players that just suck up cap space and can't get an inch of separation ... Just an ounce of me wants to see what Brees could do with someone that refuses to be covered ... Hell I'd like to have Steve smith ! Our receivers depend too much on Drew and the route getting them open ... I want a fiery in your face

Re: Fitzgerald a Saint ?

Just a note but there are some big WRs coming into the league these next few years. Stills looks to be a starter for a while and adding Fitz with him and another youngster is what's dreams are made of. But I doubt it.

Now MJD would be another fun story.

Which of our current WR's are you talking about? Colston? Moore? No one else is sucking up much cap room at all.

Re: Fitzgerald a Saint ?

I think we could easily get Fitz, Calvin Johnson, AJ Green, and Desean Jackson for league minimum if they wanted a ring. Maurice Jones Drew and Adrian Petersen in the backfield, with Pierre and Sproles....Jimmy Graham on one side and Vernon Davis on the other....just think of the schemes and possibilities Payton could draw up, imagine the rings they would get with Drew quarterbacking....make it happen, Loomis....oh and by the way, I am ten years old and am posting from my mom's computer while she is at the beauty parlor.

Through the first four games, he was averaging 74.5 yards per game, which would be almost 1200 yards and second most of his career with the Saints, and likely hurt (as you mentioned.) It will take more than two games for me to call for cutting his ass.

Colston and Moore have plenty left in the tank imo.The great thing is that in Toon and Stills they may have great competition to keep them needing to perform or risk getting cut/traded in the long term.

Re: Fitzgerald a Saint ?

Funny how the players look at the Saints now as a team to win a Super Bowl with. I think that gives us bargaining power on these deals.
Tony Gonzalez left KC and went to Atlanta cuz he smelled a SB shot with the dirty ones. How are those Chief's doing now?

Agreed, IIRC Colston disappears for a few games nearly every year. We usually hear about some minor injury that was bugging him well after the fact.

Moore has always had stretches where he disappeared.

Not that I think it could happen, but Fitz is a special individual. His father is a longtime sports writer and Fitz is working on getting his degree in communications because he is thinking about his future career outside of football. The kid is really smart and is already set. He is smart enough to see the advantage of a ring over cash at this point to help advance his broadcasting career.

I know its just the probowl but I saw a great connection with him and Brees. Seeing him in a Saints jersey would be incredible!

Colston is having down year. 24 catches and not 1 100 yard game. 1 TD
