Saints looking to add center-hung video board to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome
 

The New Orleans Saints are looking to add a center-hung video board to the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, team president Dennis Lauscha said on Monday’s Black and Blue Report.

Lauscha talked about a number of potential upgrades for the New Orleans Arena and Mercedes-Benz Superdome in his interview Monday.

Lauscha said the video boards wouldn’t be part of the “phase 1” changes (changes taking place this season) but would definitely be part of phase 2.

“We are really pursuing (center-hung video board) for the Superdome,” said Lauscha. “We are working on that right now. We think if we can add a center-hung video board to the Superdome it will really help our Super Bowl LII bid in 2018.”

Rest of the NFL can build whatever stadium they want but it's obvious the NFL wants to come down here to play the Superbowl.

Yup. The Superbowl is ALL about the corporate scene and the corporate types absolutely love New Orleans. Besides, New Orleans has the best infrastructure and climate to host the game out of all of the NFL cities.

Because the Dome is situated within walking distance from hotels, and the French Quarter, and also now the area around the SuperDome has completely come to life, it's an idea travel venue. No one wants to travel forever to a city and have to sit in traffic in a cab or public transport just to get back and forth from a football stadium to their hotel.

The New Orleans airport is slower than most larger venues which makes it infinitely more convenient.

And yes, the weather is ideal for that time of year. By late January, people want to visit a slightly warmer climate (40 to 50 degrees) rather than trekking up to a frozen tundra.

Maybe this time the screens in the middle will work. I think out of all the games I went to in the dome during the 70's-80's, the projection screens only worked once.

What exactly do you think a $40M Center hung screen is going to do to ticket prices?

If you are wondering where I pulled $40M from that was the cost of JerryVision, the center hung screen in Cowboy Stadium.

seriously, do we actually need enhancements to draw for a Super Bowl? Handing out souvenir cups on Bourbon would bring in as many fans as a 40 million dollar TV

Great now so the screens that they waste on mindless "entertainment" will now be in the field of play, screw keeping up with the jones. Nothing was wrong with the placement of the screens now just needed them to be bigger

We'd be better served replacing the club seats with concrete bleachers so some real fans could sit there.

Then "real fans" would get to see what's on the new projection screen.

Last year at the Eagles game, controversial plays were banned from replay on the projection screens anyway. It was bizarre.
