New Orleans Saints preparing for disruptive force in Buffalo Bills defensive end Mario Williams

It probably wouldn't be fair to say that Buffalo Bills defensive end Mario Williams is having a breakout season.

When one is a former No. 1 overall draft pick, a two-time All Pro and an eight year-veteran, those days have come and gone.

But to say Williams is having a career-best start this season? That's not even a question.

Williams has 10 sacks this season, which is tied for second in the NFL and is the most sacks through seven games in Bills franchise history. He's also on track to break Bruce Smith's franchise record of 19 sacks set in 1990.

Williams' personal best of 14 sacks, set in 2007, could also be broken in short order.

Williams earned his second AFC Player of the Week honor last week after sacking and forcing a fumble on Miami Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill, a move that set up the winning field goal late in the fourth quarter last week.

The first honor in Week 2, after Williams set a personal and franchise single-game record of 4.5 sacks against the Carolina Panthers.

It's been enough to earn the attention of New Orleans Saints tight end Ben Watson, who said Williams is a "larger than life" presence on the field.

Watson, a former New England Patriots and Cleveland Browns player, has been lined up against Williams often through the years. And he said he'll surely be seeing a lot of him when the Saints host the Bills on Sunday.

"He's going to be one of the guys that we have a tremendous responsibility of blocking, pass blocking and run blocking again, and he's a guy who is a dynamic player," Watson said. "Obviously he has 10 sacks on the season. ... He's a very good player.

Here's my question. How did the Texans let this guy go? Pair him with JJ Watt and teams like the Bucs and Jags would refuse to travel to Houston kind of like Grambling players do.

Houston simply could not afford him. They had no shot at keeping him.

He is no where near as "dangerous" as Robert Mathis or Justin Houston. His numbers are between them but look at his schedule.

Perspective - 4.5 sacks against Carolina, 2 Cleveland, 2 Miami. 1 Bal, .5 Cin

Which 7 teams allow the most sacks (Bold indicated teams he had played against)? Miami (26), NYJ (25), Car (21), Cle (21), Pit (21), Bal (20), NE (20), Cin (15)

Miami, Carolina, Cleveland, and Baltimore = 4 of the TOP 7 Most sacked QBs.

A DE couldn't ask for a better sack schedule. Will Smith would have 10 sacks with that schedule and Cam would have 16

He had no sacks against NYJ, NE... I dont know how.. Those are the other two top most sacked QBs. He has yet to play Pit.

Geno Smith was sacked in every game he has played in at least 3 times EXCEPT for Buf :)

In contrast to the Saints allowed sacks - Saints(14)

Horrible article.

remember in '06 when it was 96% sure that we were going to get Williams?
...wonder if Loomis would have found a way to hold on to him, unlike Houston

We need to make improvements on our O-Line next year. Specifically at C, and LT. Brown is a better RT than he is a LT but we can do ok with those two positions taken care of. Then again we may already have our LT on the team and may just need RT and C.

I like DLP; not great, but serviceable, and dirt cheap. OT is a definite need.
Wonder if Drew ever regrets the big contract that might have cost us Bushrod?

I wonder if he ever thinks his contract also cost us Nicks, grubbs is okay but half the time you watch the line of scrimmage, grubbs is on his back when the play is over

And that was on a designed play where the O line slid and Jed collins was against Mario williams, so kinda 0 sacks against our O line, 1 sack against our full back lol
