Something I've Noticed Through 8 Games...
 

This season, defensively, it seems like they play balls out the First Half. Meaning, they sack the QB 3 or 4 times, and then in the Second Half, they don't get any sacks at all.

It just seems kind of weird. I really don't know what to think about it. Any idea's?

Either way, this defense has by FAR exceeded my expectations, and I can't wait for more. Who Dat!

I think its kind of a schematic thing, example being

Lets send 7 guys to get into Thad Lewis' head and hit him around in the first, then in the second half lets show him 7 guys are blitzing but only send 4, make his memories of the first half force him into early throws and mental errors

Rob has done an awesome job with this D, 6 out of 7 opponents have scored only 17 or less against us

Coaches will make adjustments at the half so that will make a difference. That is why it seems like, on occasion, a team will have a light and dark game.

they adjust we need to readjust. this is one of the bones i have about ryan. but i will wait before screaming bloody murder. so far the credit goes to the players and ryan doing what williams did. attack. other than that i i can not jump on the ryan express just yet

So far pretty good. The lack of run game is what killed us in NE & will kill us again at some point (against Seattle?)

Seems like we go into prevent mode in the 2nd half. Payton had to get Rob to attempt a blitz at a 3rd and long against Buff at one point. It didn't work because it was too obvious but I think Sean was trying to make a point.

I like this; 4th in the NFL with rocking 17.1 points given up per game. Ain't nobody should be complaining about that.

I do have a concern about how his defenses traditionally struggle in the second half of the schedule each year, though. In fairness, he was at CLE, OAK, and DAL, so he has the luxury here with Payton & Brees. Last year he did have all those injuries to deal with, but a good overall scheme and good in-game adjustments are what separates terrible/bad/average/good/great DC's. We simply need an average and above showing from Ryan and we'll be set.

QBs we've faced this year,

Matt Ryan - meh
Josh Freeman - LOL
Carson Palmer - again, meh
Ryan Tanehill - Good QB
Jay Cutler - Over rated
Tom Brady - Great QB who has zero WRs but manged a miracle win anyway.
Bills - Some guy

Not particularly impressive.
