PFT Rankings - Saints 5th

Week Eight power rankings | ProFootballTalk

1. Chiefs (8-0; last week No. 1): Andy Reid could be taking this career rebirth thing a little too far.

2. Seahawks (7-1; No. 2): An ugly road win is still a road win, and with enough road wins — ugly or otherwise — the road to the Super Bowl will go through Seattle.

3. Colts (5-2; No. 3): Maybe they should trade Trent Richardson back to Cleveland for Josh Gordon.

4. Broncos (7-1; No. 4): Peyton Manning with two injured ankles probably runs even faster than Peyton Manning with two healthy ankles.

5. Saints (6-1; No. 5): The Saints did considerably better with two weeks to prepare for a visit from the Bills than the last team that had two weeks to prepare for a visit from the Bills.

6. 49ers (6-2; No. 6): Another week, another win over a team that wishes it had taken Colin Kaepernick in the 2011 draft.

7. Packers (5-2; No. 7): After Sunday night’s game, Vikings receiver Greg Jennings was saying to quarterback Aaron Rodgers, “Take me with you.”

8. Bengals (6-2; No. 8): For a change, folks in Cincinnati who want to dress for Halloween as a perennial playoff contender can wear a Bengals uniform.

9. Patriots (6-2; No. 9): Tom Brady’s hand isn’t swollen. The rest of his body is shrunken.

10. Lions (5-3; No. 12): Detroit fans who hate Matt Millen need to remember that he drafted Calvin Johnson.

That is pretty wild. I honestly didn't remember that it was Millen. If he is lucky that is what people will remember about his time there 20 years from now.

And IIRC thats after drafting 2 first round busts at WR the previous two years.

Yep, every dog finds a bone now and again, ... he won't be so lucky as to be remembered solely for drafting Megatron. As Danno pointed out, took him too many times to get it right and there was a plethora of questionable drafts before Calvin, ... the guy couldn't draft to save his life.

Lions are pretty consistently #10 in all the 'power-rankings', so that's a good sign they're on to something positive for a change ... at least everyone's looking at 'em in the same light.

Hey, don't go congratulating Matt Millen for "drafting" Calvin Johnson. Jesus Christ in heaven, i could have made that call...

Can't believe the amount of people that click on them, and then post how they don't like them.

I like to read the blurbs about each team. Its no different than 90% of the threads on every NFL site. Its an opinion of what someone thinks of your team, as well as other teams.

Why do people get their panties in such a wad over power ranking posts?

Yahoo believes!

1. New Orleans Saints (6-1, LW: 2)
They were rooting hard for the Rams to finish off Seattle on Monday night. Home-field advantage in the NFC means everything this season.

It was a trap! Had "power" been in the subject line I wouldn't have clicked.

So you don't have a problem with ranking the 32 teams, just power ranking the 32 teams?

Makes sense.

So ranking individuals is somehow less ghey than ranking the teams?

They're either all ghey, or not ghey.

And yes, I need something...

Not necessarily, the rankings of individuals usually involves stats and I'm a stat whore. Therefore I find there to be intrigue. The ranking of teams with the subjective "power" concept is normally pure biased opinion for the most part, with little regard to anything other than perception.

I know you listen to NFLSirius, ever heard Pat Kerwin refer to his power rankings? I'm paraphrasing but it's more 'my power rankings that I do because the network makes me do them' , than anything he believes in...

Power Rankings are done to generate traffic to websites because people eat it up.... Ever head them read over the radio, in news print, shown on TV? I haven't...

I rarely hear any top 10 lists on the radio either, but no one ever complains about those, and they are every bit as biased opinions as power rankings and every bit as meaningless.

In fact, I'd bet 90% of all threads on sports forums are about someone's opinion about something.

But for some reason power rankings posts are ridiculed and the rest aren't. Sorry, but that seems dumb. Maybe it makes people feel superior by degrading them. Thats kinda sad and pathetic in my opinion, especially when they know its a power ranking thread.

Anyhoo, those that can, play. Those that can't, act like they can.

On a few power rankings I saw we lost a spot on a BYE week.... If someone can make sense of that, I'll read them all from now on. For what it is worth, I do not do mock drafts either.

That being said, I know I have seen you ridicule power rankings before Danno.

Well I was mostly ridiculing the posters who ridicule the rankings, as it appears they actually think they mean something toward playoff seeding, like BCS standings.

I swear I think some posters actually think others look at the power rankings as if they determined playoff seeding.

We all know they don't mean anything, yet some posters insist on stating that ad nauseum as if some of us do think they mean something. Thats who I usually take a jab at.

Meh, I like 'em, in kind of a 'National Enquirer' sort of way ... I do think this is the first one I saw for this week that didn't have the Saints at #1, so they either know something the others don't or they're totally out of the loop,.

I really don't give a sh*t about rankings.

I do, however, care about other stats, for instance
NO 6-1,
ATL 2 - are they still playing this season?

Lol

They are a joke. How are the Colts under the Seahawks after they are the only team to have beaten Seattle, San Francisco, and Denver?

Also WTF does this actually mean? "The Saints did considerably better with two weeks to prepare for a visit from the Bills than the last team that had two weeks to prepare for a visit from the Bills."

How does that justify our ranking?

I just went to see who wrote it... It all makes sense in an Alice in Wonderland sort of way now.
