Saints errors before, during Jets game costly
1 Attachment(s)
The weather was pleasant, considering the possibilities of New Jersey in November. Still, it was chilly, in the mid 40's.
This looked like the 2012 Saints, a team making mistakes and a defense that was gashed all afternoon long. The Jets lost to Cincinnati 49-9 a week ago. This is the NFL. Every week is different. These are paid professionals. If you don't show up with your best effort, you will lose. The Saints indeed lost in a sloppy 26-20 contest. New Orleans made a talent evaluation to go with their clear miss investment in Mark Ingram over Chris Ivory. Does anyone think Ingram is a better runner than Ivory? Anyone? The Saints were defined by their two plays on third and inches in the fourth quarter. First, you throw to the fullback in the flat. He drops the ball. Then, a tight end around? With Josh Hill? Seriously? This team cannot run the ball and has no confidence to even try to run. You needed an inch and had two downs to get it. I love Sean Payton's ability to call plays but this was a bit ridiculous. The fourth down call brought back memories of "Superdome Special." Again, I ask the question—why trade up and draft Mark Ingram in the first round if you don't trust him to make an inch? Given a chance to win late, the Saints were simply not good enough to get it done. There were key injuries but the Jets had injuries as well. When you are favored to win, you have to take care of business. The Saints did not. - See more at: Quick Takes: Saints errors before, during Jets game costly |

But I get your point. Payton obviously has no confidence in his run game. |

Yea, that was kind of a bad spot, to start off with. He got the first down. I figured they'd try one of those Drew shooting the ball across the line then drawing back. But yea, it seemed like some bad play calling. Still, they had their moments, and I've got to give it to the Jet's defense, pretty awesome this week. And add a goodly portion of luck with all the tips and interceptions--viola', game Jets. Didn't see this one coming, not after last week's performance, by the Saint's and the Jet's. |
Re: Saints errors before, during Jets game costly
You can't win when your team only has 3 rushing attempts in the first half. And how is a running back supposed to get anything going on only 2 carries in a half? Everyone is saying Ingram is a bad running back. But the guy needs carries to get it going. 5 to 10 carries a game is not enough.

Re: Saints errors before, during Jets game costly
Except for all the drops, I didn't see anything new yesterday. The one thing that concerns me is that all the flaws on this team become magnified when we leave the dome. I honestly don't know what team will show up on the road anymore and thats not good during the upcoming stretch.
Do I even need to mention carolina is only one game back? |
Re: Saints errors before, during Jets game costly
I don't get the Ingram bashing after yesterday. He had 4 carries for 19 yards. Almost 5 yards a carry. Why is it his fault? He's not under center with the ball in his hands. He can't call his own number. I personally believe it's where he went to school that gets him all the bashing. It's Payton's cockiness that gets in the way sometimes. No faith in a RB but you do in a 3rd string TE, that's a load of crap. I'm not saying Ingram is the best we got but I don't believe he should get all the criticism either. When as a team you only run the ball 13 times and throw 51 times that's your problem. Take away the 8 yard loss on a stupid TE around which might have worked if you block the DE, we ran the ball 12 times for 47 yards almost 4 yards a carry. That's not a bad average just piss poor amount of attempts.

To be honest, I think it's a superstitious thing going on with ingram where people just think bad things happen when he's on the field. |
Re: Saints errors before, during Jets game costly
The biggest error was starting Ingram!

Re: Saints errors before, during Jets game costly
any of you stat guys know how often a RB succeeds on a 1 yard power run when the other team KNOWS its coming? Just curious...seems like Ingram can Never get it done...our o-line is not the best but sproles and PT seem to be much better at it

Re: Saints errors before, during Jets game costly
the drops more than anything else denied us any chance of winning. not even
headcase kicker. we couldn't run it, but when do we run all over anyones asse. there was more to it but if u can't move the chains its over. the 5 yard passing game of ours is our running game. u don't catch the freakin ball its cooked , over ta, ta . thats it. go home. dammit the J. E.T.S. aghh |
Re: Saints errors before, during Jets game costly
Pitiful that you can't get one inch with two tries. Bodes ill for us going forward.

We definitley should have run a lot more in that game though, especially with the noise issues. Good lesson for Seattle (and the rest of the season). |
Re: Saints errors before, during Jets game costly
We had a lot of drops.
For 4th down and inches. Coulda gone with a direct snap to a RB |
Re: Saints errors before, during Jets game costly
Poorly written article from someone that was obviously still mad.
Not one single positive note. |
