Marques Colston feels no need to discuss pursuit of records
Whoever gave Saints wide receiver Marques Colston the nickname “Quiet Storm” wasn’t kidding about the quiet part. Colston needs just 12 yards against the San Francisco 49ers at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome on Sunday to break the franchise record for receiving yards and 16 to break the team record for yards from scrimmage, but he refused to discuss the looming achievements with reporters all week.
Instead, Colston issued a statement through the Saints’ press office saying, “While it is certainly an accomplishment to set these records and something that I am proud of, my focus right now is on our team week to week and how I can contribute to us continuing to win football games.” Colston can bury his head in his playbook all he wants. Colston’s 566 receptions are the most in franchise history. His 60 scores are the most receiving touchdowns and total TDs ever for the Saints. His 7,843 receiving yards are 11 shy of tying a team record set by former Saints wideout Eric Martin from 1985 to 1993. His 7,850 yards from scrimmage are 15 shy of matching the record Martin holds for that category. Read more | |
