Veteran CB

I'm sorry but Trevin Wade is not going to cut it and until Corey White grows up a little, neither will he. We need a veteran CB that can come in and fill in for Jabari Greer. I've been saying Nnamdi this whole time but at this point, I don't care, sign Ronde Barber. Nonetheless these guys aren't going to cut it. We have enougj problems dealing with the run, we don't need problems with the pass. Move Jenkins or Vaccaro back down to CB. We have to do something. Greers play was greatly overlooked this season. HUGE loss

Ummmm yeah....no. Chicken Little much?

I'm going to continue to trust that RR and SP know what they are doing.

If RR says this Wade guy can get the job done better than Nnamdi or Ronde I for one believe him.

Re: Veteran CB

I think White can handle the #2 corner spot just fine, rotate Jenkins/Vaccaro into the nickel depending on scheme and we'll be fine.

I'll trust Ryan and Payton with the Wade decision, they have far more coaching experience than all of us...

Young legs vs old legs.. I'd rather the first choice. Plus White knows the system and hes shown up. Its a little to late to be looking in the ol folks home for players.

Re: Veteran CB

I'll copy and paste my response in the other thread:

I am not concerned with the secondary.

1. Our best cover corner is Keenan Lewis who usually covers the opponent's #1 receiver.
2. White has done a great job all season and the Saints defense didn't skip a beat after Greer went down, limited the 49ers to only 127 yards passing.
3. The Saints have a versatile secondary in which both Vaccaro and Jenkins can cover the slot receiver.
4. Carr has been solid as a dime back all year long. He continued to shine vs the 49ers.
5. Harper is back and Bush has played well to allow more versatility in the secondary with the usage of Jenkins and Vaccaro.

In essence we will not see any other players on the field that haven't played all year long. Sweeting would only be considered in garbage time. We would only have an issue if we suffered another injury. As it stands now, we are fine.

I would have preferred seeing us sign Nnamdi on the cheap as a back up. Ryan seemed to think he could get something out of him. Maybe he wanted too much cheese? If we discussed it then Sean, Rob, and Mickey discussed it.

I'm sure you'll see more of Jenkins in that nickel spot and a Vaccaro and Harper over top. And now that Julio is done for the year it's not like many of the teams we have left on the schedule have very strong receiving corps (Tampa has Vincent Jackson, a running back and no one else, the Panthers can barely throw the ball, St. Louis can barely throw the ball, Wilson is a little suspect as a passer and they lost Sydney Rice, still gonna be our toughest assignment) so we can give em the ol'Dez Bryant treatment and have Keenan Lewis jam the sh*t out of them at the line.

i myself think we should go experience, but we all know they went thru meetings to see whats best for now. wade may be short lived. and to get him familiar with the defense. like a extra spare tire.

Re: Veteran CB

Well, everybody wants to bring in experience, and we are usually thinking of the Darren Sharper type thing -- like the veteran is gonna come in off the street and suddenly start rolling up some magic Hall of Fame type numbers. But that type of thing really happening, is really extremely rare.

Remember in '09 when some injuries happened late in the season, Porter, Sharper AND Greer, and we went with "experience" in the backups, with Mike McKenzie and what's his name from the Ravens...of course they had the all out balling game against New England, which was legendary, but after that....they had glimpses of greatness, but after that New England game the high wore off, and they started to look old and a step too slow, pretty darn quick.

This is a significant injury to Greer, no doubt. He will be missed. But at this point I think it's better to roll with adjusting what pieces we have, and bringing in young and fast and maybe with a potentital upside, rather than old and definitely on the downslide of the slope.

Re: Veteran CB

My thought is White plays in Greers place and Wade is there in case someone goes down. Remember Wade would have 4 days to play in the system, not likely going to happen, but he might be a good solid pick-up that eventually turns heads, I wish him only the best.
