Victor Butler back at practice

Can't verify yet, but word is he's practicing with the team which means we have 3 weeks to evaluate then we must decide to add to the 53 or place on IR.

That's pretty amazing he made it back this quick to even be considered for the 53 man roster.

I hope he makes it. That will put our pass rush at another level.

Good luck to him hope, he makes it back.

Re: Victor Butler back at practice

He might just be a playoff option. We'd have to carry him on the 53 for 2 or 3 weeks, but he then gets a bye week 9hopefully) before we play our 1st playoff game.

So by my math thats 8 weeks from now. Thats a lot of time if he's actually practicing now.

When would we have to make the decision? I doubt him being back by Seattle but him healthy would be increase the already impressive d.

21 more days or Dec 10. Tuesday before the Rams game, I think... That's the last day, so anytime until then

Good to hear. Although, I have to say I've been fairly impressed with our linebackers this year. Hopefully he can help out in coverage situations since that appears to be where our LB's struggle the most.

You want Butler on the field applying more QB pressure

wonder if it's late enough that we can get Reddick or Griffin through waivers and on to PS, freeing up a roster spot

I remember reading that he has been making football moves and in football shape for over a month and the only thing he hadn't been doing during rehab was hitting (obviously). I think he comes back soon maybe he even gets activated against the Hawks on Monday night.

No chance. Now is the time non-contenders would clear the bottom of their roster in a heartbeat to pick up a player like griffin.

We won't see him on the field until late in the playoffs at best.

Doing football moves is one thing, doing them with 325 pounds of lineman on you is a whole different level of strength.

Perhaps, but if he weren't as ready as we suspect then why bring him into practice? Is there a deadline that they had to make? I know that because he was at practice he needs to be activated off of the PUP in 21 days. I know you could activate him to the 53 and carry him until he is ready, but why kick the 21 day timer into effect unless you thought he could be ready?

They had to by today. Or call him done for the season.

Today was the last day to start practicing or go to IR. but again, you don't start practicing unless he's ready to.
I say it's about 50/50 that he play this year. I wouldn't rule him out especially since he didn't think it was that serious of an injury, disputed the decision and got a 2nd opinion.

Decision on Victor Butler by Tuesday - New Orleans Saints Blog - ESPN

Well that changes my line of thinking then.

Being that they must give him a try you never know what kind of shape he is in. Although I read a month or so ago he was in 'football' shape but that's speculative. I linked the article in a post about it a while back and I don't feel like digging for it.

so who then? Reddick hasn't really played, Sweeting is in a position where we are short...maybe just put Walker on IR? line has been fine, and he hasn't played in 6 weeks

I think Reddick plays a lot of special teams and gets a decent amount of snaps in certain defensive packages.

I'd like to see his snap count. Anyone have stats on his snap counts?

I do think stashing Walker on IR might be a good idea though. Too much potential to cut, but as you said he hasn't played much and we're deep at D-line.

Scratch that

Riddick played against Atlanta 5/56 LILB, New England 7/88 LILB, and Dallas 3/46 RILB.

I* don't know about this, I think he goes on IR until next season, our D has been playing real well and his injury was bad. I say give him more time to fully recover instead of risking injury again.

We win whether he makes it back or not.. if he doesn't hes getting more rehab if he does.. he's well rested lol. I'm pulling for him!

His salary may not say Victor will make much of a difference but I know he'll be huge. He may not gain the starting spot we thought he would but he will be a fresh body to blitz which is very underrated in the NFL, especially a guy with his skill set.
