METAIRIE, La. -- New Orleans Saints linebacker Victor Butler returned to practice on what he described as a "super limited" basis Tuesday for the first time since he tore his anterior cruciate knee ligament in June.

Butler remains a long shot to return to the Saints' active roster this season. But Tuesday was the deadline for players on the physically unable to perform list to begin practicing this season. The Saints now have a 21-day window to decide if they want to activate Butler or place him on season-ending injured reserve.

"I know where I hope to be [in three weeks]. But 21 days feels like a lifetime away from now," said Butler, who said he is physically able to do everything now -- but still in moderation.

We have 3 games to decide if he'll be ready for a playoff run.

i like the idea of Butler and Harralson as depth.

A mix of Haralson, Butler, Galette, and Harper on the outside with Lofton, Hawthorne inside could be scary good...

get him out there and start building it up. there aint no reason to rush him into a game at this point. heck if he just gets it back to work out condition by season end i would be ok with it.

I would let him heal, can't wait to see this guy next season in a 3-4 D.

Perhaps he's already healed? I can't see them activating him unless he has completely healed.

Also, it may be that he's 99% healed and by playoff time he'll be 100% healed AND in football shape.

I wouldn't mind having a healthy speedy OLB available for that trip to Seattle, if we have to go there.

December 10th + no word about him = not good. I wanna see him on the field but someone would get cut.
