Looks like Ray Lewis is gonna be $7,785 lighter.

Bet his wife is giving him an ear full.

Dammit, I sent an email to Roger Goodell and told him to make sure the fine was for no less than $1 million.

Thug fine. He'll appeal it.
Instead of a teachable moment, Harbaugh and Brooks treat it as a clean hit. They should fine Harbaugh more than Brooks.
Whiners are the dirtiest team in football right now. That could win you a SB ring in the 70's but not anymore.

I don't understand the backlash from everyone outside of Saintsville on this hit. I've seen many hits on qb's and receivers that drew flags and fines and I'm like really. I generally side with the defense on these but that hit nearly took Brees' head off. I don't care if you watch it real speed or slomo.

Now with the lawsuit over the NFL shows that it doesn't care about player safety, I knew the "bounty" mess was a cover up but this proves it. That fine wasn't enough and if he had hit Manning of Brady that way, Brooks would have been banned from the league

Harbaugh may have coached at Stanford but he is clearly not the sharpest knife in the drawer -- backing his player's bad habits by failing teach how the game is played. Harbaugh is letting emotion take precedence over reason. That would never happen to Bill "most scintillating interview ever" Bellicheck.

The fine was exactly what it should have been for a first offense roughing the passer. The fines are not arbitrary, especially the first couple.

Here is the NFL’s official 2013 schedule of fines:

(Posted fine amounts are for first offense/second offense)

Offense Against Game Official
Physical Contact with Official $26,250/$52,500
Verbal or other Non-Physical Offense $21,000/$42,000

Player Safety Rules and/or Flagrant Personal
Foul (including, without limitation): Suspension or fine; severity to be determined by degree of violation
(Fines listed are minimum)
Striking/Kicking/Kneeing $7,875/$15,750
Horse Collar Tackle $15,750/$31,500
Face Mask $7,875/$15,750
Leg Whip $15,750/$31,500
Late Hit $7,875/$15,750
Spearing $21,000/$42,000
Impermissible Use of the Helmet (including illegal launching) $21,000/$42,000
Initiating Contact with Crown of Helmet (new for 2013) $21,000/$42,000
Hit on Defenseless Player $21,000/$42,000
Blindside Block $21,000/$42,000
Roughing the Passer $15,750/$31,500
Low Block $7,875/$15,750
Chop Block $7,875/$15,750

Fighting
Fighting $26,250/$52,500
Unnecessarily Entering Fight Area (active involvement) $5,250/$10,500
Unnecessarily Entering Fight Area (no active involvement) $2,625/$10,500

Sportsmanship
Excessive Profanity; other Unsportsmanlike Conduct (e.g., toward opponent(s), game personnel, fans, etc.) $10,500/$21,000
Taunting $7,875/$10,500
Football Into Stands $5,250/$10,500

Uniform
Foreign Substances on Body/Uniform $7,875/$15,750
Chin Straps $7,875/$10,500
Personal Messages $5,250/$10,500
(Additional fines may be imposed on team management and coaching staffs for condoning, permitting, etc., violations in this area)
Other Uniform/Equipment Violations $5,250/$10,500

good info
Vaccaro was fined exactly half that when he hit Ryan, which I guess was not technically roughing the passer

Yeah, but to be fair if Jordan hit CK like that And the ref threw the fag, everyone here would be pissed. Dont get me wrong Im happy the fag was thrown And we won the game, but damn I miss real football.

What Guido said, ... the fine is in line with a second offense and what has been handed out to other players with similar hits/transgressions. That's really all you can ask in the NFL today,.

I am all for the penalty on the play... but a fine, that is just ridiculous.

It had no malicious intent. If he did then the other hand wouldn't have came around to protect Brees some from being slammed to the ground. It was a move to tackle that was just a little high otherwise it would have been fair play.

Fines are getting ridiculous. Penalty was enough in this case.

SloMotion 11-20-2013 05:58 PM

Re: Brooks fined

It may well be a ridiculous fine. The problem is, Goodell has established a precedence of ridiculous fines and he can't deviate from that. To not fine Brooks would invalidate half the fines he's handed out this season. He's 'fined/legislated' himself and the NFL into a corner, I'm afraid.

And as a result he is now universally hated across all continents. Reading the comments from other forums confirms that. He may have to purchase an island somewhere with all of his millions being paid to him.

Some on here maybe but for the most part folks on here are in agreement when one of our guys gets out of line. I would have been pissed not at the call but at Jordon.

I agree with this. I don't have a problem with the penalty but there was nothing malicious about the hit.

Au contraire mon frere

I was traumatized.... emotionally scarred brother. I have had to completely rethink my personality as the soft kitten like Oak was just to vulnerable. Way too much Mr. nice guy.

After a PM I received that pointed out some people actually believe there is a personality association between people and their avatars (If that were the case mine would always be a kitten or puppy, maybe an angel). Ive been doing some testing since, and it seems that responses I get to my postings are heavily influenced by my avatars. Eastwood brought me all sort of nasty replies, Sean Payton was pretty neutral, people just do not like Spock at all, huge boobed women brought me 100% agreement. I have decided that since my thoughts are going to be judged as if my avatar were saying them, that I am going to have to go with something a little more neutral and closer to home.

how is it not malicious? He swung his arm at Brees' neck/head. A good football play would've been to lower the shoulder and drive it into the QB's back, but he chose to go high instead. And it cost him.

Euphoria 11-21-2013 08:13 AM

Re: Brooks fined

kicking someone in the balls sure fine but playing football and making an innocent mistake is something other. Where are the fines for holding?

You need to look at the clip. His arm didn't swing, he purposely put it out and grabbed Bree's. He also used his other arm as he came around to brace and protect brees so Bree WASN't Slammed down to the ground. That to me would have be malicious intent. Punching Brees in the balls that is malicious intent... not making a football play that went wrong.

His other hand came around to "protect" Brees? LOL. I'm sorry, but that's just crazy talk. Your explanation is so convoluted, it's not even making any sense.
