Playoff scenarios (bring some aspirin)
OK - here's an exhaustive look at where we will land in the playoffs. More than you every wanted to know...
#1 seed Two opportunities still for #1 seed, but both would require Seattle collapse. a) Saints win out to finish 13-3, Seattle loses 2 of 3 (@NYG, ARZ, STL) to finish 12-4 b) Saints win any two of three remaining games and finish 12-4. Seattle loses out to finish 11-5 #2 seed a) Saints win out. This happens and #2 is as low as we go. b) Saints win any two of the three remaining games. This happens and #2 is as low as we go. c) Saints beat only the Panthers. Eagles lose any 1 game (@MIN, CHI, @DAL) d) Saints beat only Bucs OR Rams. Panthers lose 1 game (NYJ or @ATL). Eagles lose any 1 game (@MIN, CHI, @DAL) f) Saints finishes 0-3. Seattle finishes 0-3. Dallas wins out to win East at 10-6. Eagles lose to Cowboys and either Bears or Vikings to finish 1-2. Panthers lose to NYJ and @ATL to finish 1-2. #3 seed Only way this happens is if the Saints finish 1-2 with the only win against Carolina and the Eagles win out and finish 11-5, beating Saints on NFC record tiebreaker (10-2 vs 9-3). Eagles would then be #2 seed. #4 seed Supposedly there is a less than 1% chance that Saints could be #4 seed, but I can't find it. Must use common opponents or strength of schedule tiebreakers that CURRENTLY favor the Saints, but could change... #5 seed Only way this happens is if the Saints finish 0-3, the Bears beat the Eagles in week 16, and the 49ers lose two of their last three games (@TB, ATL, @Arz) #6 seed Only way for the Saints to be the #6 seed is for the Saints to finish 0-3 and for the Bears to beat the Eagles in Week 16. MISSING THE PLAYOFFS There is ONE scenario for the Saints to miss out completely on the playoffs and it involves: a) Saints lose out b) Panthers beat either Jets or Falcons, in addition to Saints c) Cowboys win out and wins NFC East d) Eagles beat the Bears and Vikings. We would lose out on #6 to them due to NFC record (9-3 vs 8-4). |
Re: Playoff scenarios (bring some aspirin)
My head is spinning. Here is an interesting fact though:
"One of the most surprising parts of this NFL season is that the four teams with the worst records in the league — Houston, Atlanta, Washington and Minnesota — were all in the playoffs last season. Fans of three of those teams at least have the ability to daydream about what their teams can do with next year’s first-round pick. Fans in Washington don’t even have the draft to console them as they trudge through a miserable December." Washington-Atlanta a big game for NFL draft order | ProFootballTalk |
Re: Playoff scenarios (bring some aspirin)
No playoffs would take some serious bad luck. I would even say our chances of Seattle losing two are better than no playoffs. If the Cowboys win out that means Obamacare is working flawlessly and Arial Sharone popped out of the coma.

Sooooo, if the Cowboys lose one game we're in the playoffs? That's funny right there. :bng: |
Re: Playoff scenarios (bring some aspirin)
We also have a chance of seaturds losing first playoff game which would give us homefield throughout playoffs(assuming we're #2 seed).

As a 6 seed, I think Carolina would lose to 3 seed Philadelphia (although they would beat the Cowboys if Dallas happens to luck up and win the NFC East). |

Re: Playoff scenarios (bring some aspirin)
I think the Eagles in Seattle in the playoffs is just as intriguing as Carolina in Seattle or SF in Seattle. I wouldn't discount them. The Eagles are not a dominant team but if they and that offense are firing at 100% they can be pretty scary. And they're good on the road; better on the road than the Saints.

Re: Playoff scenarios (bring some aspirin)
Look at who the Eagles have played.... Cardinals, Packers (Wo Rodgers), Raiders, Skins, Giants..
If played today Seahawks will get the lowest winning seed, we will get the highest winning seed. Giving the Seahawks the 49ers and us the Panthers again. I just do not see the Eagles taking out the 49ers in any wildcard round. |

Re: Playoff scenarios (bring some aspirin)
right now the two wild cards are the stronger teams of the 4 in the divisional round
biggest factor will be Philly's weather if seeds hold and SF and Carolina win, we would host Carolina, with SF going to Seattle---- Good match-ups for us |

Eagles cannot go to Seattle in the playoffs because they have h2h tiebreaker over the lions. If eagles were to go 10-6, they'd still be the 3 seed if they beat Dallas. I just don't see them losing to the vikings. And if they end up 9-7 that means they lost to Chicago and Dallas and I don't think Dallas will lose both the next two against two teams not getting in. so if eagles get out of wild card round, they are playing us. Tbh, I hope we win this week and lose to Carolina. Just because I wouldnt want to have to play them four weeks later if we sweep them but I feel we're sweeping them. Lions hung well with eagles for a half before eagles ran over them second half. Could they hang with Seattle in C-Link? |
Re: Playoff scenarios (bring some aspirin)
seachickens aren't that good.
they just think they are. redemption is best served cold. third time is the charm. this is going to be fun, no matter what happens. ya'know why? you aren't an atlanta fan. |
Re: Playoff scenarios (bring some aspirin)
I'm thinking (or hoping) the beatdown on Carolina is the start of their 1-3 meltdown to end the season, and Arizona boots those Appalachian slopeheads out of the playoffs altogether. Arizona owns the tie-breaker over Carolina, after stomping that pompous panther ass 22-6 in October. :p
This is setting up quite nicely if you ask me. |
Re: Playoff scenarios (bring some aspirin)
Its not out of the realm of possibility that Seattle drops 2 of the next 3 and finishes 12-4.
Its all for the fact that they heading to NY which you never know what the Giants will do, then 2 games vs division opponents. I am trying to be optimistic here though, I just am waiting for the real Seattle Seahawks to show up like the real Falcons showed up this season. |

If the 49ers and Eagles both blow their easy games at Noon, the Saints would clinch before the game vs the Rams begins...

Re: Playoff scenarios (bring some aspirin)
So if Carolina somehow loses this weekend and we win, does that mean we at least have our division locked down?

Re: Playoff scenarios (bring some aspirin)
most 'what-ifs' will be cleared up by 730 EST tomorrow
if SEA beats the Giants, they are #1 if we win, we will win the south not mathematically clinched, but highly unlikely otherwise |
