Saints secondary say they are now gaining a 'swagger about us'
The New Orleans Saints defensive secondary managed to successfully guard the Carolina Panthers receivers Brandon LaFell, Steve Smith and Ted Ginn Jr. while the Saints opened up an 24-6 lead.
QB Cam Newton only reliable target was TE Greg Olsen as the Saints went on to a 31-13 win. The performance by the secondary came six days after Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson and his receivers shredded the Saints. "I think we were confident last night, had a sense of swagger about us," Saints veteran safety Roman Harper said, via Terrance Harris of NOLA.com. "We played together." "I talked to the guys earlier about last week. We seemed like we played sometimes for ourselves, and when you are playing defense it's about playing for the guy next to you, it's all about being together. The tightest group is the group that wins on defense. We have to be able to do for each other." "It goes hand in hand," said Saints coach Sean Payton. "I thought we did a good job of keeping the players in front of us, No. 1. The big plays Carolina has the potential of hitting you with (are) where they get behind your defense in the passing game. They do a good job running the football and you can all of sudden getting consumed with forcing the run and then there is a Ted Ginn, or LaFell or Steve Smith splitting your secondary, but I thought we kept the ball in front of us. We contested a lot of throws and broke up a lot of passes, and that was pleasing. "Overall, it goes hand in hand, and I think there are coverage sacks just like there are hurries that help the back end." Saints secondary say they are now gaining a 'swagger about us' |

Re: Saints secondary say they are now gaining a 'swagger about us'
The thing I loved is that we were able to shut down Steve Smith and Ginn. Those are the kind of receivers that give us trouble especially without Greer's agility. I like White more and more as a guy who can cover the big #2 wideouts on the outside.

Re: Saints secondary say they are now gaining a 'swagger about us'
Big picture, a new DC with a lot of new faces...odds of making the playoffs are low. I did the math, about 20%, can't remember the number but it was awful. I thought best case we win 10 and that's best effort; no wiggle room. We have a serious shot at eclipsing that without a doubt. The scary part is imagining putting this crew back together and tweaking it a little more. Brees is great but nobody is going to want to face our defense. Brees is going to be on auto pilot.

Grab a chair...... We can sit in the White section together. I want to see White, Vaccaro, and Hawthorn crush someone's receiver. All three of them thump. Best part about it is when I was browsing google looking for pics of him playing, all his thumps are form tackles. |

I remember when he was a rookie, before training camp even started, he was making comments about how he couldn't wait to pick Brees off a few times in practice. I remember thinking that this guy was one of those arrogant late round s**t talkers who cant back it up and probably wont last long on this team. It only took a few games and I saw why they picked this guy up. I really like him and I think he will be a good player for us for years to come.

Corey is just getting his feet wet on the outside and so far i say let him stay out there and get the reps. he has not hurt us so in the long run, it will only make the team better

Re: Saints secondary say they are now gaining a 'swagger about us'
please stop talking. I don't give a **** about swagger. If you don't win, you ain't got no reason, and if you do win, it wasn't because you "swaggered", it's because you did your freaking job.
so just shut up. |
Re: Saints secondary say they are now gaining a 'swagger about us'
our defense is playing well.
i'll always respect greer. i like that new CW kid a lot. plays with a ton of heart. our new D coach Ryan was turned down by the goats, during his five minutes of interviews. they told him his scheme didn't fit in the land of goats. the last time we played the RAMS, they sure left a sour taste in the mouth of every Saint related human being in the galaxy. our defense is gearing into playoff mode, right before your eyes, however... and the past is the past, and will have no bearing on this game other than perhaps motivation. the Saints are going to tee off on the rams. you watch. check out the stats on the rams QB (# of sacks, INTs, etc) shock the world. two dat. |
